Conor McIntyre placed first in the 82-kilogram division and Jesse Shirton finished third in the 53-kg division at the recent Edmonton zone wrestling championships in Stony Plain.

The medal winners at zones will compete at provincials next Saturday in Okotoks.

Last year at the provincial junior Olympics championships with the Crush team, McIntyre was the top 77 kg wrestler and Shirton won his 49 kg weight category.

The cheer team at William D. Cuts School was awarded silver in division three at the junior high provincial championships last weekend.

D.S. MacKenize won gold and Edwin Parr received bronze in the three-team format at Lillian Osborne School. Division three was the highest level of competition at provincials.

Cuts earned a provincial berth by winning the division title at the Edmonton zone meet for the first time in 10 years.

The Gators Tri Club is hosting the annual Frozen Gators Triathlon on March 17 at Fountain Park Recreation Centre.

The Gators will swim, spin on their bikes indoors and then run outside.

The fundraiser will help support Kids Kottage in Edmonton. Last year the Gators raised $800 for the Sports for Hope Foundation.

The Gators club consists of 14 youths aged 12 to 19 who are interested in swim, bike and run training.
