The All-Edmonton Football Teams in the metro Edmonton league's senior divisions feature seven St. Albert players.

The 32 players in each division were selected by league coaches as the top contributors in their respective positions: one quarterback, three running backs, six receivers, six offensive linemen, five defensive linemen, five linebackers and six defensive backs.

The Carr conference division one Bellerose Bulldogs and Paul Kane Blues and the Miles conference division two St. Albert High Skyhawks are represented by the following players:

Bellerose: offensive lineman James Suryani and defensive backs’ Cordel Callioux and Chase LaRose.

Paul Kane: receiver Keaton Zaychkowsky.

St. Albert High: quarterback Sam Cuciz, running back Christian Pulis and receiver Connor Lotoski.

League play resumes today for the Paul Kane Blues in metro Edmonton division one women’s basketball after winning the Bishop Grandin tournament last weekend in Calgary.

Tipoff is 5 p.m. between the Blues (4-1), listed sixth in the Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association 4A rankings, and Bev Facey Falcons (1-4) at Paul Kane.

The Blues (4-1) are 16-5 overall after posting decisive victories of 76-26 against Ernest Manning Griffins of Calgary, 87-43 against the St. Francis Browns of Calgary, last year's 4A provincial champion and the ninth-ranked 4A team in the province, and 86-32 over the host Bishop Grandin Ghosts in the final.

Alesha Stanley averaged 16.3 points per game and was named the tournament MVP and Ella Stanley was a tournament all-star selection.

The Stanley sisters were recently selected to the provincial U17 team.

Tegan MacKinnon received player of the game honours against the Ghosts and tournament hustle awards were presented to captain Allie Hunder and Bronwen Barter.

The Blues are winners of three tournaments this season and the next competition is the Feb. 17-18 Panthers Classic at Spruce Grove.

Meanwhile, the division two pool B Paul Kane men finished second at the Archbishop MacDonald tournament last weekend. The Oscar Romero Ravens beat the Blues 74-69 in the final.

Logan Buchanan was Paul Kane's tournament all-star.

The Ravens are listed third in the 3A provincial rankings and the Edmonton team’s division two pool A record is 5-0.

Paul Kane was also 5-0 in league play before Tuesday’s home game against the Eastglen Blue Devils (1-5). The score was unavailable at press time.

Monday the Battle of St. Albert between Paul Kane and the Bellerose Bulldogs (6-0) starts at 6:30 p.m. at Bellerose.

Last year’s division one confrontation was a fire and brimstone affair, as the Bulldogs prevailed 83-77 on Seniors Night at Bellerose. It was the only division one win for the 1-12 Bulldogs and Paul Kane finished 2-11.

The St. Albert Skyhawks host today’s metro Edmonton basketball doubleheader at the SkyDome.

The division two pool B men’s contest against the Austin O'Brien Crusaders (2-3) goes at 5 p.m. and the division one women's match against the Jasper Place Rebels (4-0), the No. 1 ranked 4A team in the province, begins at 6:30 p.m.

The Skyhawks, a 3A men’s honourable mention in the provincial rankings, are 3-2 in league play and 5-6 overall after last week's 78-56 loss to the undefeated Bellerose Bulldogs.

The lady Skyhawks were 3-2 in division one and 12-10 overall before Monday's home game against the Strathcona Lords (2-3). The score was unavailable at press time.

Last weekend the Skyhawks lost the consolation final of the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute 50th annual Green and Gold tournament to the Magrath Pandas 49-42.

Brooke Froment was the top performer against Magrath, the ninth-ranked 3A team in the province, with 11 points.

The Skyhawks had only seven players available for the tournament because of injuries and as a result ran out of gas against Magrath after losing 62-59 to the Raymond Comets and beating the Medicine Hat Kwahommies 72-66.

Sarah Dedrick pumped in 27 points and blocked seven shots against Raymond, seventh in the 4A rankings.

Lauren Cardinal recorded 12 points and nine rebounds against the Kwahommies, a 4A honorable mention.

The 3A St. Albert Catholic High School Skyhawks are ranked eighth in 4A despite soldiering through a rash of injuries, including two starters who are sidelined, and the absence of head coach John Dedrick to knee surgeries.

Upcoming for the Skyhawks is the Panthers Classic, Feb. 17-18 at Spruce Grove.

Meanwhile, Abby Morrison of the Skyhawks made the provincial U17 team and Kayleena Garda of the Richard S. Fowler Falcons was a U15 team selection.
