Alicia Easthope of the Sandpiper Golf & Country Club is among 130 competitors at the 62nd annual Canadian Junior Girls Championship in Ottawa.
The tournament started Tuesday at the Camelot Golf & Country Club and after the first two rounds of play the field will be reduced to the low 70 players and ties, as well as top 10 juveniles and ties. The final round is Friday.
Last year Easthope, 18, made her junior national debut and placed 42nd out of 70 golfers who made the cut and the Bellerose Composite High School graduate shot rounds of 83-83-74-77 for plus-29 at 317 at the Links at Penn Hills in Shubenacadie, N.S.
In the fall, Easthope will join the golf program at the University of Montevallo in Alabama. The Montevallo Falcons compete in the Gulf South Conference.
The St. Albert Miners qualified for their fourth consecutive senior B provincial final by sweeping the Calgary Mountaineers in the best-of-five Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League semifinal.
The 2016 Presidents’ Cup national champions will play the Rockyview Knights of Airdrie after eliminating the Mountaineers 10-6 in game three Friday in Calgary.
The Miners opened the series with victories of 19-8 and 15-3 in St. Albert.
The provincial schedule was unavailable at press time.
The winner advances to nationals, Aug. 27 to Sept. 3 at Six Nations of the Grand River in Ontario.
The Miners are 21-0 this season after their 44th consecutive victory since last year’s season-opening 7-7 draw against Rockyview on April 30 in St. Albert.
Rockyview’s 16-5 record includes losses of 14-8, 12-5 and 14-7 to the Miners.
Club honours are at stake this month for golfers at the Sturgeon Valley and Sandpiper courses.
Sturgeon Valley hosts its ladies and senior ladies championships Saturday and Sunday and the three-day men’s championship starts Saturday and ends Monday.
The winners will have their names engraved on the club’s Legacy Wall.
The Sandpiper championship tournaments are Aug. 12-13.

Isabelle Lajoie, a forward with the 2017 Esso Cup midget AAA national champion St. Albert Slash – the first championship team from Alberta in the tournament’s nine-year history – is one of 29 players born in 2000 and 2001 taking the next step to making the provincial roster for Hockey Canada’s eight-team national women’s U18 championship at Quebec City.
The female players were picked for the shortlist based on their overall play at the Team Alberta U18 spring camp in May and the 46-player provincial camp last month in Camrose.
Lajoie is joined on the shortlist by Slash teammates Stephanie Markowski of Edmonton, Hannah MacDonald of Wetaskiwin and Taylor Anker and MacKenzie Butz of Sherwood Park on defence, forward Madison Willan of Edmonton and netminder Camryn Drever of Edmonton.
