As of Monday afternoon, 232 triathletes, plus four teams of three people each, were registered for the 26th annual St. Albert Kids of Steel Triathlon on Sunday.

Included in the overall total are 37 junior draft legal triathletes, 17 females and 20 males.

The KOS, hosted by the St. Albert Triathlon Association, starts at 8 a.m. at Fountain Park Recreation Centre and the last swimmers start racing at 10:30 a.m.

Youths from four to 19 compete as an individual or with a team on a swim-bike-run course that varies in distance according to age group.

Teams are divided into the grades 1 to 3, 4 to 6 and junior/senior high school divisions.

This year’s triathlon is also a junior draft legal event for the Canada Summer Games qualifier and provincial junior championships for 16- to 19-year-olds, as well as the provincial youth (14-15) championship.

The junior elite and 20 to 23 age division consists of the 750-metre swim, 18.4-kilometre bike and five-km run.

KOS participants are members of the Alberta Triathlon Association.

Last year 221 triathletes and five teams finished the KOS, compared to 241 and six teams in 2015.

Noah Boyko scored three times as the St. Albert Rangers rallied from a three-goal halftime deficit to knot Africana FC at four apiece in the Monday’s division 1A match in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.

Boyko found the back of the net twice on brilliant headers and also slotted a loose ball past the goalkeeper.

The Rangers poured on the pressure when Africana was red-carded for violent conduct but were unable to score the winner before the final whistle blew at the ESA Complex.

A slow start by the Rangers and miscommunication led to breakdowns in the first half as Africana (2-2-2) jumped ahead 4-1.

Dan Czwartkoski scored the lone tally before the break on a wicked cross from Will Backhouse.

Tonight at 6 p.m. the Rangers (1-1-3) play the Drillers (0-1-3) at the ESA Complex.

The first loss after four wins for the St. Albert Crude was Saturday’s setback in Okotoks.

The host Marauders (5-4-1) outscored the Crude 7-3 in the first period, highlighted by three consecutive shorthanded tallies, en route to the 10-6 junior B Tier I decision in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

The Crude failed to score in the middle frame and trailed 9-3 after two periods.

The Crude were led by Ben Holowaty’s hat-trick, a pair by Tyler Dion, Dustin Herman’s single and three assists by Carter McCorriston.

Holowaty is the team’s top scorer with 14 goals and 30 points in eight games.

The next game for the Crude (4-5) is 8:30 p.m. Thursday against the Edmonton Warriors (1-6-1) at George Hughes Arena.

Meanwhile, the first annual Crude Alumni Game was staged Friday with Team White winning 15-8 over Team Purple at Akinsdale Arena.

Erik Turner and Derek Burak fired four goals apiece for Team White.
