The Paul Kane Blues made a splash at the metro Edmonton swimming championships Monday at the Kinsmen Aquatic Centre.
Paul Kane placed first in the male small team points standings with 427 and the Bev Facey Falcons were second at 310.
Paul Kane was also second in the female small team at 328 (Salisbury Sabres were first at 617) and combined small team at 755 (Salisbury was first at 829).
The following Paul Kane swimmers recorded top three finishes in their respective short course events.
Tristan Arraial – second: 400 metre free open (4:32.73); third: 200m IM open (2:25.22).
Hayley Basterash – first: female 200m IM open (2:38.54) and 100m back open (1:09.50).
Mack Flowers – first: 50m free open (24.11) and 100m fly open (57.91).
Danny Gerlach – first: 100m free open (57.27) and 100m back open (1:01.83).
Sara Johnson – third: 50m breast novice (45.74).
Fred Kamminga – first: 50m back open (28.79); second: 100m breast open (1:09.11).
Shae Kelly – third: 50m back novice (38.91).
Emily Rolheiser – second: 50m fly open (32.40).
Savannah Weber – third: 50m free novice (34.86) and 50m fly novice (42.70).
In the men’s relays Arraial, Flowers, Gerlach and James Graham combined to win the 4x50m medley open (1:57.05) and the 4x50m free open (1:43.48).
The Lorne Akins Crush wrestling team pinned down 12 podium results at the recent St. Cecilia tournament in Edmonton.
Placing top three in their respective weight classes are the following female Crushers.
First place: Kyla Dorn, Bryana Perlette and Pasha Perlette.
Second place: Ainsley Maxwell.
Third place: Sarah Gardiner.
The following males also placed top three in their weight classes.
First place: Chris Manchester, Blayne Landsborough and Michael Nobrega.
Second place: Rylan Baerg and CJ Carrie-Labelle.
Third place: Aidan Anderson and Arturo Martinez-Gallego.
At the 2014 Provincial Junior Olympics the Crushers were awarded 23 individual medals. In the team category the junior girls and senior girls won gold and the junior boys received silver.
This is the 37th year for the longest-running junior high sports program in St. Albert.
