The Bellerose Bulldogs spike the ball today in the metro Edmonton division two junior women’s final at Strathcona High School.

Start time between the Bulldogs (8-1, 25 GW/9 GL) and Archbishop MacDonald Marauders (7-3, 27 GW/12 GL) is 11 a.m.

The Bulldogs are chasing after their second junior women’s volleyball banner in school history since winning the 2010 city conference final.

In pool B the first-place Bulldogs beat fourth-place McDonald 3-2 on Oct. 1.

Wednesday in the semifinals Bellerose defeated the St. Peter the Apostle Spartans (7-3, 25 GW/14 GL) 3-1 at Bellerose and McDonald knocked off the defending champion St. Albert Skyhawks (8-2, 28 GW/11 GL) 3-2 at the SkyDome.

Tonight at 8 p.m. the St. Albert Flyers hook up with CRAA Blue of Calgary in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League.

Faceoff is 8 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.

The midget 15 Flyers are third in the north division at 6-2-2 after Wednesday’s 5-2 loss to the first-place SSAC Bulldogs (12-0) at Millwoods Arena.

CRAA is also third in the south division at 7-3.

The Flyers are 3-1-1 in their last five games after giving up three power-play goals against the Bulldogs.

Leif Mattson scored his team-leading 15th goal in the first period and recorded his 29th point with an assist on Rob Putt’s goal in the third to cut the lead to 3-2.

The Flyers were outshot 39-19 and Nate Reinhart (4-1-1, 3.13 GAA) was in net.

Tuesday the Flyers host the Maple Leafs (3-4) at 8:15 p.m.

The Paul Kane Blues suffered season-ending losses on their home court this week in the metro Edmonton volleyball playoffs.

The lady Blues (7-3, 26 GW/13 GL) dropped a 3-2 decision to the Austin O’Brien Crusaders (8-2, 26 GW/13 GL) in Tuesday’s division two quarter-final and the junior men (12-1, 37 GW/12 GL) bowed out in four sets to the Archbishop McDonald Marauders (13-1, 39 GW/7 GL) in Wednesday’s semifinal.

In league play, the lady Blues finished second in pool B and AOB was third in pool A.

The junior men were the top team in pool B and McDonald was ranked second in pool A.
