Jacey Carroll and Jenny Song potted two goals apiece as the St. Albert Impact defeated Sherwood Park Phoenix 4-1 in the Alberta Soccer Association U18 Tier 3 women's final Sunday. The Impact also beat the Millwoods Selects 6-2, Calgary Blizzard 5-0 and Camrose Inferno 5-1 en route to the final.
The St. Albert Cardinals got off to a flying start at the Baseball Canada U13 nationals in London, Ont.
Mark Brisson batted 3-for-4 and Liam Froment, pick-up Kalen Glockzin of Sherwood Park and Jared Gilbeau combined on a six-hitter while striking-out seven in Thursday's 10-2 victory against the Saskatchewan champions from Regina.
Brisson, Froment and Ryan Marples drove home two runs apiece and Gilbeau and Kade Knight both scored twice.
The Cardinals banged out nine hits and Saskatchewan committed four errors.
The Alberta peewee AAA Tier I champions led 3-0 after two innings and in the top of the seventh sealed the deal with four runs.
Friday the Cardinals played Quebec and the host London team to complete the pool A round robin.
The crossover playoffs are on tap today and the medal finals are Sunday.

The Cardinals were 34-9 going into their first nationals since 2006.
Stephanie Stephen of St. Albert and Marley Broda of Sturgeon County contributed to the Alberta Wildcat Warriors' gold-medal victory at the U21 women's national fastpitch championship in Montreal.
In Sunday's final Stephen doubled and scored once batting leadoff and in left field Broda made the second out in the last inning to stop the tying run from advancing into scoring position in the 3-2 win over Rebelles Langlois.
The defending champions from Quebec rallied in the bottom of the seventh for two runs before Alberta ended the suspense.
Stephen was honoured as Alberta's player of the game and was selected to the tournament all-star team at catcher. She batted .462 and drove home three runs in six round-robin games and hit .429 in five playoff games.
Broda batted .250 in four playoff games.
Alberta placed third in the seven-team round robin at 4-2. Langlois was the top team at 6-0 and Rebelles Dagenais of Quebec was second at 5-1.
In the playoff format Alberta won its last four games after the 1-0 opening-round loss to Dagenais.
