The St. Albert Miners raised their senior B record to a perfect 8-0 in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League after winning twice on the road last weekend.

The Miners defeated the Okotoks Raiders 9-4 and the defending provincial champion Calgary Mountaineers 13-7.

The St. Albert Crude remains the team to beat in junior B Tier 1 lacrosse after knocking off the seven-time defending provincial champion Calgary Mountaineers in Saturday’s showdown at Akinsdale Arena.

Derek Burak’s three goals and three assists and captain Erik Turner’s two power-play goals and six assists spearheaded the attack in the 13-10 victory against the Mountaineers (8-2), last year’s national silver medallists at the Founders’ Cup in Winnipeg.

Mathew Meek-White tallied twice and Cody Stannard had one goal and three helpers. Brody Tod, Simon Hansen, Reece Runco, Cam Ellingson and Owen Feist also connected. In net was Troy Boucher.

The Miners posted period leads of 5-2 and 11-5.

Next year the Mountaineers will host the Founders’ Cup. This year it will be staged in Halifax from Aug. 18 to 24.
