In the division one men’s quarter-finals the Paul Kane Blues (1-1-1 in pool B) battle the Edmonton Christian Lions (3-0 in pool C) at 6:15 p.m. at the Pirates Rugby Club.

The semifinals are May 26 and the final is May 29 or June 2 at 6:30 p.m. at Ellerslie Rugby Park.

In the division one women’s opening round the Bellerose Bulldogs (3-0 in pool A) scrum down against the Ross Sheppard Thunderbirds (2-1 in pool A) at the Pirates and the Sturgeon Spirits (0-3 in pool B) tangle with the Strathcona Lords (0-3 in pool B) at Lynn Davies Rugby Park. Kickoff times are 4:45 p.m.

The semifinals are May 26 and the final is May 29 or June 2 at 4:45 p.m. at Ellerslie.

Bellerose was the 2013 premier conference (now division one) playoff runner-up.

In the division two women’s quarter-finals Paul Kane (2-1 in pool A) tackles the Jasper Place Rebels (1-2 in pool B) at 4:45 p.m. at the Pirates.

The semifinals are May 26 and the final is May 29 at 4:45 p.m. at Ellerslie.

The St. Albert Miners shredded the Spruce Grove Slash for 24 goals to win by 18 in Wednesday’s senior B blowout in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

The Miners improved to 3-0 after the 24-6 blowout at Grant Fuhr Arena.

Period scores were 11-2 and 19-4 against the winless Slash.

The Miners tallied four times on the power play and didn’t allow a shorthanded marker.

Top gun Graedon Cornfield fired five goals and added four assists to trigger the offence.

Playmaker Sean Reid set-up nine goals and scored twice.

Chris Schmidt potted four goals and collected five assists and his brother, Nate, recorded three goals and five assists.

Ryan Davis collected three goals and four assists, Darren Kinnear notched three goals, Jason Riley punched in a pair and Ted White and Steve Tessarola sniped singles

In net was Leland Labreque.

The Miners travel to Airdrie on May 25 to play the Rockyview Knights at 3 p.m.

The next home game is May 28 against the Slash at 8 p.m. at Northstar Hyundai Arena.

The third goal of the game by Lucas Roberts was the pivotal insurance marker for the St. Albert Crude in Thursday’s 10-8 victory over the Sherwood Park Titans in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

Roberts scored on the power play with 3:41 remaining after the Titans pulled to within a goal of the junior B Tier 1 team with a pair during a 2:35-minute span in Sherwood Park.

Cam Illingson and Simon Hansen chipped in a pair and Derek Burak, Jacob Dion and Eric Hardinge also tallied.

Hansen added four helpers and Bruce Ingraham was in net.

The Crude netted six goals in the middle period to lead 7-4.

The Titans struck five times on the power play as the Crude was penalized for 42 minutes, compared to only 18 minutes for the home team.

The Crude improved to 4-0-1 and the Titans are 1-5.

Next weekend the 2013 north division champions and provincial finalists host the Edmonton Warriors (4-1) at 6 p.m. Saturday and the Red Deer Rampage (4-1-1) at 2 p.m. Sunday at Akinsdale Arena.

The Zone 5 (Black Gold/Yellowhead) Extreme football team has been finalized for the 2014 Alberta Summer Games and 10 St. Albert players made the 35-man roster.

Nick Allen, Sam Cuciz, Colton Meronyk, Logan Moreau, Matt Schaaf, Jesse Stuht and Keaton Zaychkowsky of the St. Albert Fury (Tier 1 finalists in the Capital District Minor Football Association and provincial semifinalists) and Isaiah Ansah, Connor Guy and Anthony Swecera of the St. Albert 49ers cracked the lineup.

Thirteen players from the Sherwood Park Rams (Tier 1 CDMFA champions and provincial finalists) made the team.

The Alberta Summer Games run July 24 to 27 in Airdrie.
