Fullback Michelle Marler gutted the Rockers for four tries as the St. Albert Rugby Football Club women’s team kicked off the season with an impressive 67-0 victory Saturday at Ellerslie Rugby Club.

The 67 points equalled last year’s overall total in eight division two matches for SARFC in the Edmonton Rugby Union. SARFC and the Rockers finished 1-7 in league play.

The next ERU spring league match for SARFC is May 14 against Crude/West at 7 p.m. at Ellerslie.

Crude/West is coming off a 34-10 victory over the Grande Prairie Sirens.

SARFC and the Sirens tangle May 24 at 2 p.m. at Alpine field.

The St. Albert Crude recorded three out of a possible four points during last weekend’s homestand to start the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League season.

Last year’s junior B Tier 1 provincial finalists rallied to tie the Red Deer Rampage 9-9 Saturday and thumped the Okotoks Marauders 9-2 Sunday at Akinsdale Arena.

The Crude outscored the Rampage 4-1 in the third period, as Simon Hansen netted the equalizer on the power play with 3:07 to play for his second goal of the game.

The Rampage (1-1-1) led 4-2 after the first and 8-4 in the second before Cody Stannard fired the second of his four consecutive goals to close out the period.

Two of Stannard’s goals were generated on the power play. He added four assists as the game’s top point producer.

Derek Burak tallied twice and added three assists, Nadr Jomha scored once and Jacob Dion chipped in with three helpers.

Last year the Crude defeated the Rampage in the third and deciding game in the north final.

The next day the Crude and Marauders (0-1) combined for 83 minutes in penalties.

It was 2-1 Marauders in the second before the Crude exploded for seven unanswered goals at even strength, including six in the third.

Hansen, Lucas Roberts and Cam Ellingson potted a pair each and Stannard, Matt Murphy and Tyler Turner also found the back of the net. Captain Reece Runco had three helpers.

Next weekend the Crude host the Sherwood Park Titans (1-1) at 6 p.m. Saturday and the Winnipeg-based Manitoba Blizzard at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Akinsdale.

The Crude and Titans clash again May 15 at 8:30 p.m. in Sherwood Park.
