The midget AAA Raiders and female Slash host their home openers Sunday.
Game times are 1:15 p.m. between the Raiders and Southside Athletic Club at Akinsdale Arena and 1:30 p.m. for the Slash against the Red Deer Chiefs at Go Auto Arena.
The Raiders are also accepting donations for the St. Albert Food Bank and drop-off bins will be located in the arena lobby.
The Raiders open their Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League schedule tonight against the Canadian Athletic Club at 7:45 p.m. at Bill Hunter Arena.
The Slash also plays their first midget AAA game in the new Alberta Female Hockey League today against the Chiefs in Red Deer at 5 p.m.
St. Albert golfer Barrett Belland won his second-straight Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference tournament with the MacEwan University Griffins.
Belland carded rounds of 73 and 72 last weekend at the north regional at the Ravencrest Golf & Country Club for a one-stroke victory over Cole Morrison of Red Deer College.
Morrison’s birdie on 18 of round two forced Belland to at least two-putt from 11 feet for the win.
The previous week, the MacEwan fifth-year commerce student posted rounds of 71 and 72 to finish first at the south regional at the Olds Golf Club.
At both regionals, the Griffins captured the men’s title by 36 shots in Olds and by 18 shots at Rivercrest.
Noah Lubberding (tied for third at 78-71) and Keaton Lockwood (tied for 20th at 85-80) of St. Albert also teed it up for MacEwan at the north regional.
The ACAC championships are this weekend in Lac La Biche.
Tonight’s bout between the St. Albert Heavenly Rollers and Nuclear Free Roller Derby of Red Deer starts at 7 p.m. at Servus Credit Union Place.

The Sir George Simpson Voyageurs ran away with the team title at the St. Albert Physical Education Council district cross-country championships last week.
Simpson placed first with 1,155 points, followed by the Richard S. Fowler Falcons (1,083) and Vincent J. Maloney Marauders (1,080).
The podium team results in the junior, intermediate and senior divisions are as follows.
Junior: Simpson (380), Fowler (372) and VJM (340).
Intermediate: Lorne Akins Gators (406), Fowler (367) and VJM (360).
Senior: Simpson (425), VJM (380) and Fowler (344).
The top Grade 7, 8 and 9 male and female finishers at districts qualified for Wednesday’s zone championships at Goldbar Park. Results were unavailable at press time.
The U19AA St. Albert Mission skates into action Sunday against the University of Alberta ringette team.
The exhibition starts at 2:30 p.m. at Leduc Recreation Centre.
Friday the Mission face-off against the U19AA Central Alberta Sting at 7:30 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.
The first tournament of the season is Nov. 11 to 13 at the Bernadette Price Memorial AA Tournament in Saskatoon.
The Mission lineup features six returnees from the team that placed 18th at nationals as the last of the six Alberta reps in the 20-team tournament. The belles were seeded sixth out of the Alberta teams at nationals.
