The St. Albert Senior AA Cardinals are having a rough go of it this season in the North Central Alberta Baseball League, currently sitting in last place with a 2-12 record.

After a couple of losses last week – a 17-5 loss to the first-place Camrose Axemen in St. Albert on Tuesday night, then a close 3-2 loss to the third-place Blackhawks in Edmonton on Wednesday – the Cardinals will be looking to improve their record July 14 in Westlock against the second-place Red Lions.

Meanwhile, the Sturgeon Paladins, a team that plays out of Bon Accord, has also struggled. They’re in seventh place with a 6-7 record, following a 4-1 loss to the Axemen in Camrose last Wednesday.

The Paladins will be in Stony Plain to face the Mets on July 14, before coming to St. Albert to play the Cardinals on July 16.

The St. Albert Rugby Football Club men are coming off a two-week bye in the Alberta Cup, heading down to Calgary today at 3:30 p.m. to play the Saints at Calgary Rugby Park.

The third-place men lost their last match on June 20 against the second-place Calgary Irish 41-15 in St. Albert, and will be looking to pick up a win today and keep that momentum going into next Saturday, when they host the fourth-place Calgary Canucks.

The St. Albert Tigers Tournament this weekend may be the highest-level baseball action in town, but it’s not the only action at Legion Memorial Park.

The Peewee AAA Cardinals also host the Sherwood Park Athletics at 11 a.m. today and the Spruce Grove White Sox at 5 p.m.

The boys have been solid this season, with a 15-6-1 record putting them near the top of the standings, second only to the undefeated Okotoks Dawgs.
