The St. Albert Miners run the floor in Sunday’s lid-lifter at the Presidents’ Cup senior B lacrosse championship at Leduc Recreation Centre.

The host team for nationals and the Calgary Mountaineers hook up at 7:30 p.m.

In the best-of-three provincial final, the Miners swept the Mountaineers by scores of 13-5 and 15-7 at Go Auto Arena.

The Miners also have games on tap Monday against the Saskatoon Brewers and Wednesday against the Brooklin (Ont.) Merchants in pool play. Start times are 7:30 p.m.

The Native Suns (Can/Am Lacrosse League), Kahnawake (Que.) Mohawks, the Three Nations Senior Lacrosse League rep and Langley Warriors form the second pool.

The first-place teams in pool play qualify for Sept. 1 semifinals and the medal games Sept. 2 are 1:30 p.m. for bronze and 4:30 p.m. for gold.

The Miners, bronze medallists in 2014, are 20-0-1 in league and playoffs combined as winners of 20 consecutive games.

The Alberta Soccer Association Tier I youth championships last weekend in Calgary brought out the best in the St. Albert Impact female teams.

The U16 Impact females were awarded silver after losing the final 2-0 to Foothills 02.

The Impact advanced to the final with wins of 2-0 over MW Selects, 3-0 over Blizzard Bayern and 1-0 over SWU Premiers in the eight-team draw.

The U18 Impact females finished fourth in the six-team tournament after falling 1-0 to Blizzard Ajax in the bronze-medal match.

The Impact beat Foothills FC 3-0 before dropping a 2-0 decision to Internazionale, the eventual gold medallists.

Meanwhile, the U12 Impact females placed fourth out of six teams at the recent Tier I provincials with one win and two losses, including the 3-0 setback to Xtreme FC (Charpentier) in the bronze-medal game.

The road to the Alberta Football League final ended in Lacombe for the St. Albert Stars.

The Central Alberta Buccaneers (9-0) defeated the Stars 43-23 in Saturday’s semifinal and will play the Fort McMurray Monarchs (8-1) for the AFL title.

The Stars finished 6-4 overall, equaling last year’s record, after going 5-3 in league play for fourth-place in the nine-team standings.

A pair of St. Albert golfers teed it up at the second annual Maple Leaf Golf Tour International Players Championship last week in Jasper.

Connor Ackroyd, 16, carded scores of 74-77-75 and finished tied for 16th place out of 59 junior males at 226 at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Golf Course.

James Robillard, 18, shared 28th place at 233 with rounds of 79-77-77.

Robillard was also one of two junior male winners in the long-ball long drive competition.

The 54-hole champion was Harry Doig, 17, of Australia at 212 (72-69-71) and one shot back was Max Sekulic, 17, of Rycroft (71-71-71).
