Mitchell scored twice and added one assist in the 4-3 decision in the fifth-place game at Breclav, Czech Republic. It was the first points of the tournament in four games for the former midget AAA St. Albert Raider.
Canada was the previous winner of the U18 competition for eight consecutive years.
Mitchell and netminder Ian Scott of Calgary were the only Albertans on Canada's roster.
Mitchell plays for the Spruce Grove Saints in the Alberta Junior Hockey League and was selected to the north division all-rookie team in 2016.
Last year Mitchell played for the gold-medal winning Canada White team at the World U17 Hockey Challenge and with the Team Alberta silver medallists at the Canada Winter Games.
Mitchell is NHL draft eligible in 2017 and has committed to the University of Denver Pioneers in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference for the 2018/19 season.
The third annual Esso Female Hockey Fun Day in St. Albert is Aug. 28 at Servus Credit Union Place.
Registration is 10 to 11 a.m. for the free introduction to female hockey for first-time players of all ages. The on-ice session goes from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Skaters can bring whatever equipment they have and organizers will try to outfit them with what is needed to play. Jerseys will also be supplied through the Esso Fun Day Program.

A male and female equipment drop off and giveaway will also take place that day from 9 a.m. to noon at Servus Place. The equipment is to be clean and useable.

Ryder Horton of the St. Albert Mustangs Track and Field Club crossed the 800-metre finish line in fourth place at the recent Canadian Legion track & field Championships in Ste. Therese/Blainville, QC.
Horton's time in the U17 youth men's final was one minute, 56 seconds and eight seconds.
The Ardrossan high school student also contributed to Team Alberta's first-place result in the 4x400m relay and was on the winning provincial relay team in the same event at the Tri-Province/Western Canada Challenge last month in Regina. Horton also placed first in the 800m at 1:57.91.
Horton was joined at westerns by Maddie Curle, Matthew Harrison and Emma Murchison of the Mustangs. They were selected to the provincial team by Athletics Alberta.
Curle was the top competitor in the female youth high jump at 1.61m and 200m at 25.53 and was on the third-place provincial 4x400 female relay team with Murchison.
Harrison was the U15 midget male 200m winner at 28.39.
James Robillard of St. Albert was among four golfers to share first place on the Maple Leaf Junior Tour (MJT) stop in Olds last week.
Robillard, 18, shot rounds of 75-74 for a 149 score and it took a four-hole playoff to decide the winner, with Jace Ouellette, 17, of Red Deer coming out on top for a berth in the MJT national championship in Phoenix in November.
The next MJT event for the Sandpiper Golf & Country Club member is the 54-hole International Players Championship this week at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Golf Resort in Jasper.
Last month Robillard finished tied for 16tth at junior provincials at plus-11 (72-77-75) at the Cottonwood Golf & Country Club in DeWinton and made the cut at the men's provincials and wound up at plus-21 (77-77-79-76) for a share of 49th place at the Innisfail Golf & Country Club.
The Brezovski sisters carded low scores at the Edmonton Junior Championships last weekend at the Edmonton Country Club.
Brooke finished third in the U14 division with a personal-best 82 and 85 and Belle placed second in the U12 division consisting of two days but only nine holes per day. Belle shot 49-53.
Upcoming for the Sturgeon and Glendale club members are the U15 bantam and U13 novice province championships at the River's Edge course in Okotoks Aug. 23-24 and the McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour Championship Aug. 29 at Wolf Creek in Ponoka.
Mark Rosychuk and Paul Simmons proved to be the best of the best in their respective men's club championships.
Rosychuk fired a final round of 75 for a three-day total of 223 for his third men's crown at the Sturgeon Valley Golf & Country Club.
Justin Pysar, a former baseball standout with the St. Albert Tigers, finished four shots back.
Rosychuk and Pysar join Dean Misner, Kurtis Schultz, Brody Eggleton, Dean Karbonik, Matt Quinney, Rob Parrotta and Ray Pisnai on the 2017 interclub team.
Simmons carded scores of 75-72 to win the Sandpiper Golf & Country Club title.
