Football fans can have their picture taken with the Grey Cup today at Servus Credit Union Place.

Edmonton Eskimos fullback Calvin McCarty will be available for autographs and Len Rhodes, the team’s president and CEO, will also be in attendance.

The event is free, however donations of new unwrapped toys are being accepted for the St. Albert Kinettes Christmas hamper.

The Eskimos defeated the Ottawa RedBlacks 26-20 for their 14th Grey Cup in franchise history and the first since 2005.

Sheldon Westcott of St. Albert will be the first Canadian UFC fighter to compete in 2016.

The Paul Kane High School alumnus is scheduled to meet Edgar Garcia in a welterweight tilt on the undercard of UFC 195 in Las Vegas on Jan. 2.

They were originally to enter the Octagon on Dec. 10 at UFC Fight Night 80 but the pairing was moved to bolster the Las Vegas card.

Westcott, 31, is 8-3-1 in MMA and 0-2 in UFC.

Garcia is 14-4 in MMA and 0-3 in UFC. The 31-year-old Mexican possesses a wrestling background and is coming off a loss in November of 2014.

Westcott is gunning for his first UFC victory since joining the Jackson’s MMA fight camp in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His last win was April of 2013.

The last fight for The Ultimate Fighter Nations: Canada vs. Australia middleweight finalist in 2014 was against Pawel Pawlak at a UFC Fight Night event in April at Krakow, Poland. Westcott lost a unanimous decision to the Polish fighter as all three judges scored the bout 29-28.

For the second year in a row the Paul Kane Blues made a big splash at the metro Edmonton swimming championships.

The Blues repeated as the men’s small team champions and the 10 male and three female Paul Kane swimmers pulled together to win the combined small team banner Monday at the Kinsmen Aquatic Centre.

Individual results were unavailable from meet officials at press time.

The St. Albert Skyhawks finished the metro Edmonton co-ed curling season as division one finalists.

The Skyhawks’ No. 2 team rink lost Wednesday’s championship game 8-5 to the Beaumont Bandits at the Jasper Place Curling Club.

The Skyhawks placed first in pool E at 5-0 in the Jasper Place league and were winners of seven in a row before the final.

Beaumont was 4-1 in pool B in the Ottewell league before running the playoff table.

The top rinks in the eight pools split between the Jasper Place and Ottewell leagues qualified for the division one playoffs. The second-place rinks competed in division two and the third-place finishers were slotted in division three.

League play consisted of six ends and in the playoffs it was eight ends.
