There are only a few openings available for the first annual Merch Madness Cup golf tournament, hosted by the St. Albert Junior B Merchants, on June 10 at the Sturgeon Valley Golf & Country Club.
Registrations for individuals, teams and sponsors are being accepted through www.stalbertmerchants.com.
Fifteen per cent of the proceeds will help support Fort McMurray evacuees and the remainder will assist the Merchants Hockey Club and its Gord Hollett Memorial Scholarship Fund.
The four-person scramble format starts at 8 a.m. and dinner is 1:30 p.m.
Awards and prizes will be awarded to the winning team, most honest, longest drive, longest putt and closest to the pin.
A number of current and ex-professional hockey players will participate in the “Beat the Pro” on certain holes. Rob Brown, Taylor Fedun, Colton Parayko and Ryan Stanton have been confirmed for the tee-to-green event, although Stanton is currently involved in the Calder Cup final as a defenceman with the Hershey Bears, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Washington Capitals, against the Lake Erie Monsters.
Wade Campbell and other past and present players will also golf in support of the Money Men.
Online registrations close Sunday night for the 25th annual St. Albert Kids of Steel Triathlon.
Youths between the ages of four and 19 can participate individually or as a team (Grades 1 to 3, 4 to 6 and junior/senior high school) on a swim-bike-run course that varies in distance according to age group.
The June 12 competition at Fountain Park Recreation Centre includes the junior elite (16 to 19) and U23 (20 to 23) divisions. Distances are the 750-metre swim, 18.4-km bike (draft legal) and five-km run.
Participants must be a member of the Alberta Triathlon Association.
Last year 241 triathletes (106 females and 135 males) and six teams completed the Kids of Steel, hosted by the St. Albert Triathlon Association.

Hanson was one of three finishers to break the Edmonton zone record of 9:10.56 in the 3,000m final, set by Travis McKay of the Harry Ainlay Titans in 2002. The winning time was 9:01.16.

Mother Nature won the third annual Rainmaker Rodeo Invitational Tournament at the Legion Memorial Park as rain washed out Sunday’s medal round.
During the fourth inning of the eighth game, to end the round robin, heavy rain caused a stoppage in play and once it ended it was determined the field was unplayable and the game would stand as is. Another rainstorm, mixed with hail, ensued and all the Legion diamonds were then deemed closed for the rest of the day and the tournament cancelled.
The Edmonton Blackhawks were declared the champions, based on wins and runs for/against in the round robin, at the first North Central Alberta Baseball League sanctioned tournament of the season.
The Edmonton Primeaus placed second and the Stony Plain Mets were third in the eight-team draw.
The host St. Albert Junior Cardinals won the tournament opener, 4-0 over the Sherwood Park Athletics in one hour and 24 minutes Friday night, and lost 8-1 to the Red Deer Razorbacks on Saturday.
The next NCABL game for the Cardinals (1-2) is against the Primeaus (1-2) tonight at 7:15 p.m. at Legion park.
Friday the Cardinals play the Athletics (0-2) at Wally Footz Field at 7:15 p.m.
Sunday’s doubleheader against the Blackhawks (4-0) starts at 1:30 p.m. at Footz field.
