The 27th annual Senior Bowl High School Football All-Star Game will feature five Paul Kane Blues and three Bellerose Bulldogs on the north team May 23 at Commonwealth Stadium.
Paul Kane is represented by quarterback Brendan Guy, receiver Tanner Buchanan, offensive lineman Zach Dreger, kicker/punter Rosario Cammarata and defensive lineman Julian Pawlychka.
The Bellerose players are receiver Jaedon Carroll, offensive lineman Matt Flatla and defensive lineman Matt Heinrichs.
The 42-man roster was selected at tryouts for graduating Grade 12 players last weekend at Foote Field. The 140 hopefuls included six from Paul Kane (2015 metro Edmonton division one Carr finalist), seven from Bellerose (division one Carr semifinalist) and one St. Albert Skyhawk (metro Edmonton division two Miles finalist and Tier III north finalist).
The south team will be selected this weekend in Calgary.
Anatonia Hood of the St. Albert Mission U16AA juniors received all-star honours at the Canadian Ringette Championships in London, Ont.
Hood was selected to the second all-star team at offence for the Mission.
Hood recorded 10 goals and 13 points in four games in pool play and in the championship round produced six goals and 12 points in four games.
The Mission finished 11th out of 20 teams for third among the six Alberta teams in the junior division. They were the fourth-seeded Alberta team in the tournament.
Last year the Mission placed seventh at nationals.
In pool play, Vail Ketsa posted six goals and 12 points, Shahn Yaceyko added five goals and nine points and Abby Klatt had three goals and four assists.
The championship round included two goals and six points for Ketsa, three goals and five points for Klatt and two goals and five points for Yaceyko.
Meanwhile, the U19AA Mission belles ended nationals in 18th place as the last of six Alberta reps in the 20-team division.
The belles were seeded sixth out of the Alberta teams in the tournament.
Last year the Mission won bronze at nationals.
Haley Groenenboom led the belles in pool play with four goals and five points in four games and in four consolation round games Sara DeRose collected three goals and five points and Groenenboom chipped in with two goals and five points.
The first-year Black Gold Rush finished eighth out of eight teams at the National Ringette League championship in London, Ont.
The Rush roster consisted of several St. Albert Ringette Association graduates.
The Rush and Atlantic Attack completed the round robin with identical 1-6 records, with Atlantic beating the Rush 6-4 Friday in the last game before the playoff round.
The only Rush win was 6-4 against the sixth-place Calgary RATH (2-5).
Danielle Pronovost of Stony Plain was the top Rush scorer with six goals and 13 points in seven games, followed by Molley Chorney of Riviere Qui Barre with four goals and seven points, Lauren Henderson of St. Albert with three goals and seven points and captain Nikki Andruchow of St. Albert with two goals and seven points.
Kaylin Bechard of Spruce Grove was selected to the second all-star team on defence.
The seventh annual Hawks Combo Camp is accepting registrations for its volleyball and basketball sessions Aug. 23 to 25 at the SkyDome.
The camp is designed for males and females 12 to 15 years old to prepare for school volleyball and basketball club team tryouts.
Volleyball runs from 9 a.m. to noon and basketball goes from 12:45 to 3:45 p.m.
Players can register for one sport individually or attend the entire day and compete in both sports.
Krista Zubick, a St. Albert Catholic High School multi-sport alumna and former Alberta Pandas’ volleyball standout who made Canada’s B team in 2010 and 2011 and the A team in 2013 and played pro with Laon Volley Club in France, will be back as the volleyball instructor.
John Dedrick, head coach of the Skyhawks women’s basketball team and co-founder of Panthawk Basketball Academy for females 13 to 18 years old, is the hoops instructor.
The registration fee is $100 for one session (nine hours of instruction) or $185 for both (18 hours of instruction).
