The following St. Albert Impact players with the Alberta Soccer Association 2015/16 winter training program are competing at the Vancouver Whitecaps FC HPP (High Potential Players) tournament this week on the West Coast.
U13 girls: Robyn Alexandruk, Anneke Odinga and Vanessa Srochenski.
U14 girls: Ava Bourbonnais, Kelli Haffie and Brittney O’Keefe.
U13 boys: Markus Benko.
U14 boys: Evan Brassard, Luke Drapala, Gausu Dukuly, Letrell Dunawa, Ivan Hirankunda and Laine Santos.
The Alberta North teams have four matches scheduled at the competition. Teams from Alberta South, B.C. Red, B.C. Blue, Manitoba and Saskatchewan are also entered.
The Whitecaps will use the event to scout and identify players for possible future inclusion into their residency and girls’ elite program.
The goal of the ASA winter training program is to bring skill-minded players together in order to expose them to a higher level of play, as well as provide opportunities for exposure to national team coaches.

The Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association 4A women’s basketball championship tips off Thursday for the St. Albert Skyhawks and Paul Kane Blues in Red Deer.
The Skyhawks are ranked seventh and Paul Kane is 11th in the 16-team draw.
At 6 p.m. the Skyhawks play the No. 10-ranked St. Mary’s Saints of Calgary and Paul Kane faces the No. 6-ranked Lethbridge Collegiate Institute Clippers on the bottom half of the draw.
Friday the Skyhawks will play the No. 2-ranked Jasper Place Rebels or the No. 15-ranked Charles Spencer of Grande Prairie and Paul Kane will meet the No. 3-ranked Western Canada Redhawks of Calgary or the No. 14-ranked Hunting Hills Lightning of Red Deer.

Last year, the Skyhawks finished fifth after winning bronze in 2014 and Paul Kane lost the consolation final for the second year in a row.
The Skyhawks are 26-9 overall after losing the metro Edmonton division one final 61-53 to the Rebels, 15-0 in league play.
Paul Kane is 21-12 overall after dropping the division one semifinal 66-48 to the Rebels.
The Morinville Lady Wolves are 20-5 going into their third-straight Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association basketball tournament.
The three-time reigning North Central zone champions are ranked fifth in the 12-team draw at Olds and their first game is 10 a.m. Thursday against the No. 12-ranked Peace Wapiti Academy of Grande Prairie.
A win would lift the Wolves into Friday’s quarter-finals against the No. 3-ranked Edmonton Christian Lions.

The Wolves lost tournament finals to the Lions in Morinville and Strathcona Christian Academy in Sherwood Park.
The Wolves have eight players back from last year’s team that finished ninth at provincials and are graduating six players who have been on the team for three years: Larissa Van Brabant, Suzanne Van Brabant, Rachel Bourque, Hannah Froment, Shayla Kachnic and Jennifer Neilsen.
