The St. Albert Rugby Football Club played a prominent role in Canada’s 52-25 throttling of Brazil in the Americas Rugby Championship last Saturday at Westhills Stadium in Langford, B.C.
Eight-man Clay Panga, SARFC player/coach for the 2015 Labatt’s Cup premier men’s provincial champions, scored the first two test tries of his career in his third start in a row, while SARFC scrumhalf Jake Robinson made his test debut coming on as a replacement in Canada’s second win of the tournament.
Kyle Baillie, a second row and former SARFC player now based with the Halifax Tars, also came off the bench in his second test match.
SARFC winger/fullback Duncan Maguire, who scored a sensational highlight-reel try in the 69th minute of the 30-22 loss to the USA Eagles on Feb. 13 in Austin Texas, was sin-binned in the 21st minute for a late and high tackle.
Kyle Gilmour, a Team Canada flanker at the 2015 World Cup of Rugby, didn’t play because of an undisclosed injury.
It was the first time Canada and Brazil had ever met in an official test match.
Canada wraps up the tournament in South America against Argentina on Sunday and Chile on March 5.
Sunday’s match will be shown live at SARFC at 1 p.m.
