The St. Albert Mission U14AA tweens skated to second-place finish in their last tournament before the Ringette Alberta AA provincials in Lacombe.
The Mission finished 3-1 at the Sherwood Park Friendship Series last weekend while raising their overall record to 14-13-5 with two games remaining in the Black Gold League.
The Mission plays Zone 5 U14AA at 7:15 p.m. Friday at Mark Messier Arena and the U14AA Edmonton Elite at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at River Cree Twin Arena.
The Mission are fifth out of 10 teams in the U16A division and lead all U14AA teams in the league.
At the Sherwood Park U14AA tournament, the Mission lost the opening game 9-7 to the Calgary Blues, one of the top teams in Alberta, and defeated Sherwood Park 3-2, Zone 2 8-4 and Edmonton 5-1 in the five-team round robin.
Head coach Len Samletzki described the Mission’s performance as excellent, highlighted by strong teams coring, good goaltending and defence.
Provincials are Feb. 26 to 28 and the Central Alberta Sting are hosting.
