The Sabres won 8-3 and two nights later beat CAC Inland Cement 4-3 at Akinsdale Arena. Sunday the Sabres travel to Sherwood Park to play the Flyers (2-0) at 6:30 p.m.

The bantam AAA hockey team posted two wins in three nights on home ice to start league play after a strong preseason showing.

The Sabres defeated the SSAC Southgate Lions 8-3 Tuesday and edged CAC Inland Cement 4-3 Thursday at Akinsdale Arena.

Ethan Edwards, Dominik Cesarz, Stuart Dovey and Ethan McKinley scored and Braydon Iwaschuk added two assists against the CAC.

Shots were 41-32 for the Sabres and Ryley Osland was in net.

Carson Henry and Austin Spiridakis tallied twice and Cesarz, Aiden West, Blake Sydlowski and Logan McKinley also scored against SSAC. Dovey, Henry and Kye Buchanan had two assists apiece.

The Sabres outshot the visitors 45 to 27 and Ethan Fradette was between the pipes.

Sunday the Sabres are in Sherwood Park to play the Flyers (2-0) at 6:30 p.m.

The next home game is Oct. 5 versus the KC Squires at 6:45 p.m.

Alicia Easthope of the Bellerose Bulldogs was the runner-up for the second year in a row at the metro Edmonton zone female golf championship Monday.

The Grade 12 Bulldog carded an 18-hole score of 91 on her home course at the Sandpiper Golf and Country Club.

Taylor Silverberg of the Salisbury Sabres was the low gross winner at 88.

The competition featured 39 golfers representing 16 schools.

Last year Easthope finished second with an 84 at the Sandpiper.

The repeat winner of the Edmonton junior U16 female championship qualified for the Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association provincials, starting Monday in Grande Prairie.

Brooke Brezovski of the Sturgeon Valley Golf & Country Club closed out the Canadian Junior Golf Association’s Fall Series with a second-place result last weekend at the Turner Valley Golf Club.

Brezovski, 12, posted a score of 187 at the two-day, 36-hole event, with rounds of 96 on Saturday and a personal-best 91 on Sunday.

The winner was Tillie Claggett of Calgary at 181 (90-91).

Brezoski competed in 11 tournaments throughout the summer through various junior golf organizations, including the McLennan Ross and Maple Leaf junior tours, CJGA and the Edmonton junior and Alberta bantam championships.

Allison and Mike McNeill, former national senior women’s basketball team coaches, are coming to St. Albert next Saturday for a coaching clinic at the SkyDome.

The clinic, from 1 to 4 p.m., will focus on junior high in the first half and high school in the second half of the session.

The McNeills also have vast coaching experience at the NCAA and CIS levels and are leaders in grassroots development across the country.

The cost is $30 per coach or the school/community special of $100 for four coaches.

The clinic is a presentation of Panthawk Basketball and Panthawk athletes will be used as demonstration players for the coaches.
