Saunders, 19, was minus-6 with a two-round total of 136. The Glendale Golf & Country Club member was one shot back of the winner, James Love of Calgary.

The Sturgeon County resident also reached the semifinals in the match play portion, which consisted of the top 16 amateur finishers in the Alberta Open.
Last year Saunders won the Alberta Men's Amateur, Alberta Junior Boys Championship and the PGA of Alberta Junior Masters, as well as a Canadian Junior Golf Association event.
Saunders, who is coming off a successful freshman season with the Texas State University Bobcats, is among six males, including A.J. Armstrong of St. Albert, and five females on the Golf Canada U22 development squad.
The St. Albert Angels capped off the inaugural Girls Prairie League of Softball B division season by going undefeated in the double-knockout championship tournament last weekend in Red Deer.
In the final the Angels battled back from deficits of 1-0 and 4-3 to defeat the Jarvie Jaguars 9-5.
The Angels pulled ahead for good at 7-4 in the fifth inning with runs off the bats of Elisabeth Kirk and Ashley Weekes.
MacKenzie Alexander batted in insurance runs in the sixth.
Brooke Budskin threw five strong innings and Sarah Barry pitched in relief. Behind the plate was Kolby Krueger.
The Angels also posted victories of 6-3 against the Unity Panthers, 5-1 against Jarvie and 12-5 and 5-2 against the Lloydminster Blues.
The Angels lost only one GPLS game this season.

The Angels had played in the A division since the inception of the GPLS in 2010.
The U12B, U14B and U16B Angels also competed in the GPLS B division.
This weekend the U12A, U14A and U16A Angels are playing in the GPLS A division championships in Leduc and Devon.
The U18 provincials are next weekend in Leduc and a berth at westerns is at stake.

The bantam A St. Albert Rams are going to provincials as one of the two finalists in the Greater Edmonton Lacrosse Council playoffs.
Monday's 8-7 overtime win against the Blues punched the Rams' ticket to provincials, July 10 to 12 in Grande Prairie. It was the second OT victory in a row for the Rams in the playoffs.
The Rams will be joined by the Sherwood Park Titans, the top playoff seed who doubled the St. Albert squad 8-4 in Wednesday's final.
The Titans finished the double-knockout competition at 3-0 and the Rams, seeded fourth in the five-team draw, were 3-2.
The last game before the junior A playoffs for the St. Albert Miners in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League is Sunday against the Calgary Raiders.
Ball drop is 12:30 p.m. at Max Bell Arena.
The Raiders (10-4-1) and Miners (7-10) are ranked second and third, respectively, in the four-team division.
The Miners are 6-0 against the last-place Sherwood Park Titans (1-15) after Wednesday's 17-5 rout at Go Auto Arena.
Period scores were 7-2 and 12-4.
