Tuesday’s playoff pairings in metro Edmonton high school football were finalized after league play wrapped up this week in the Carr conference.

The St. Albert High Skyhawks tackle the Archbishop Jordan Scots at 5 p.m. at the Riel Park turf field.

At 7:30 p.m. at Clarke Park the Bellerose Bulldogs play the 2010 champion Salisbury Sabres.

The Skyhawks, Scots and Bulldogs finished in a three-way tie for fourth spot with 2-4 records. The tiebreaker formula was points for and against between the three teams in games against each other. The Skyhawks were awarded fourth place, followed by the Scots and Bulldogs in the seven-team standings.

The Skyhawks kicked off league play with a 27-7 win against the Scots. In the Football Alberta rankings, the Skyhawks (2-5 overall) are listed fifth in tier III and the Scots (3-3 overall) are eighth in tier II.

The winner advances into Friday’s semifinal against the first-place 5-0-1 Austin O’Brien Crusaders at 5 p.m. at Clarke Park.

The Bulldogs (2-6 overall) are in tough against the 4-1-1 Sabres, ranked fifth provincially in tier I. Last month the Sabres (6-1-1 overall) humbled the Bulldogs 51-14. The Bulldogs also have the dubious distinction of giving up the most points in the conference with 195 against.

On tap for the playoff winner are the 4-0-2 Bev Facey Falcons. Friday’s semifinal starts at 7:30 p.m. at Clarke Park. Facey (5-0-2 overall) is coming off a 63-14 drubbing of the Skyhawks this week in Sherwood Park.

The Carr final is Nov. 5. Admission to all playoff games is $5.

The Paul Kane Blues finished their first year of high school football without a win in six games.

Their third shutout loss in a row, and the fourth in the metro Edmonton league’s Carr conference, was 29-0 against the Austin O’Brien Crusaders on Thursday at Johnny Bright Park.

The seventh-place Blues scored a league-low 18 points. They also failed to register a point in losses of 22-0 to the Bellerose Bulldogs and 15-0 to the St. Albert High Skyhawks.

The only bright spot for the Blues was their 40-0 exhibition win against the M.E. Lazerte Voyageurs to start the season.

The majority of the Blues played last year on the junior and senior teams at St. Albert Catholic High School.

The St. Albert Merchants had a game in hand on the west-division leading Morinville Jets going into Friday’s contest against the Sherwood Park Knights.

The score from Sherwood Park was unavailable at press time.

The Merchants were 6-2-1 and Morinville was 7-2-1 after games played last weekend. On home ice the Money Men edged the Wetaskiwin Icemen 4-3 and lost 4-2 to the Fort Saskatchewan Hawks.

Jake Behiels of the Merchants ranks among the top scorers in the Capital Junior B Hockey League with eight goals and 14 points.

The next game for the Merchants is Sunday against the Spruce Grove Regals. Faceoff is 7:30 p.m. at Grant Fuhr Arena.

The St. Albert Slash are back home after losing twice on the road last weekend in the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League.

The Slash host the Lloydminster Steelers (4-4) today at 2 p.m. at Troy Murray Arena and the Grande Prairie Storm (1-7-2) Sunday at 11 a.m. at Performance Arena.

The Slash are 4-3-1 after losses of 3-2 and 4-3 against the undefeated Medicine Hat Hounds in Vauxhall.

The Slash are led offensively Jessica Kampjes’ eight goals and 12 points and Ashley Morin’s six goals and 11 points.

The Lorne Akins Gators ran away with the junior high school district and zone cross-country championships recently.
