The Tigers won three and lost one in the five team round-robin draw last weekend while raising their Sunburst record to 6-6. Tonight at 7 p.m. the Tigers play the A’s in Sherwood Park.

The St. Albert Tigers doubled their win total in the Sunburst Baseball League last weekend while going 3-1 in tournament action at Legion Memorial Park.

The senior AAA Tigers (6-6) posted wins of 7-2 against the Sherwood Park A’s (6-5) Friday, 5-4 against the Confederation Park Cubs (6-6) and 7-6 against the Red Deer Riggers (6-4) Saturday and lost 8-1 to the Parkland White Sox (5-8) Sunday in the five-team Sunburst round-robin tournament.

Power hitter Jessy Beley continues to swing a hot stick for the Tigers. In the Sunburst stats he ranks first in slugging percentage (.769), is second in batting average (.462) and on-base percentage (.517), is tied for second in home runs (two) and is fourth in hits (12).

John McHugh is the team leader in hits (13) and RBIs (eight) and is the Sunburst co-leader in doubles (four).

Craig Tomas leads all Sunburst pitchers with 42 innings pitched and is second in wins (three) and strikeouts (22).

Tonight at 7 p.m. the Tigers play the A’s in Sherwood Park.

The Lorne Akins Gators fielded seven teams in the Greater Edmonton Junior High Flag Rugby League and three of them reached the Tier 1 final Saturday at Ellerslie Rugby Park.

Gator Yellow defeated Gator Pink for the girls’ championship and the Gator Blues defeated S. Bruce Smith 20-15 for the boys’ title.

The Gator Gray and Green teams also represented Lorne Akins in the girls’ division and the Gator Orange and Red teams competed in the boys’ division at the playoff tournament.

A total of 80 Gators played rugby this season.

The second senior B game in five nights between the St. Albert Miners and Sherwood Park Outlaws is tonight’s tilt at Go Auto Arena.

Ball drop is 8 p.m. between the two combatants that combined for 97 penalty minutes in Sunday’s 14-4 drubbing by the Miners in Sherwood Park.

The third period was a penalty-filled affair after the Miners scored seven times in the middle frame to lead 9-4 after 40 minutes. Captain Jordan Cornfield and Matt Hansen dropped the mitts against the frustrated Outlaws (2-6), the second-worst team in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

Graedon Cornfield spearheaded the attack with four goals and three assists and Darren Kinnear posted two goals and five assists.

Pearce Just chipped in with three goals and two assists, Jordan Cornfield and Nick Petz notched two goals and two assists apiece and Derek Burak also scored.

Saturday the second-place Miners (7-2) host the last-place South Edmonton Warriors (1-8) at 8 p.m.

The 2014 Presidents’ Cup national bronze medallists and provincial champions have five games remaining after Saturday’s contest before the playoffs start.

The streaking St. Albert Crude travel to Saskatoon this weekend for two junior B Tier I games against the Saskatchewan SWAT in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

The Crude (6-7) are winners of three in a row as the fourth-place team in the north standings and the SWAT (9-3-1) is the top south team.

The Crude’s last win was Sunday’s 10-8 decision against the Rockyview Silvertips (2-13) in Airdrie.

The Crude out-scored the home team 4-2 in the third period.

Simon Hansen’s hat-trick, Cody Stannard’s one goal and three assists, Cam Ellingson’s two goals and one assist and Eric Hardinge’s one goal and two assists led the way offensively against the fifth-place team in the south.

In the latest north division scoring stats, Hansen ranks second in goals with 17 in 10 games and is fifth in points with 28.

Brody Tod is second on the team in goals with 11 in 10 games and Ellingson is second in points with 19 in 10 games.
