Paige Kremer, Emily Flowers, Georgia Kidd and Camille Barr won the U14 girls’ 4x50-metre freestyle relay by breaking the previous record by 1.4 seconds to go 1:48.25.

The team of Kidd (back), Annika Kamminga (breast), Flowers (fly) and Kremer (free) also set a new standard in the 200m medley relay. They beat the old record of 2:02.32 by a second and a half to finish 2:00.83.

On the lead-off leg, Kidd made her first senior national cut in the 50m back, clocking in at 31.11, 16-100ths of a second under the standard.

Kremer, 14, also broke a two-year national record in the 100m free. The record was set in 2009 by Lauren Earp, wearing a high performance suit. Kremer’s time was 56.65, including a swift 28.96 on the return leg. Her swim also set a senior club record.

This weekend Kremer, Flowers and Fred Kamminga are representing Canada at the North American Challenge Cup in Mexico.

Kremer, Flowers and Mackenzie Lubberding have also been picked to represent Alberta at the Western Canada Summer Games, Aug. 5 to 14 in Kamloops.

The St. Albert Sailfish Swim Club host the region B regional meet this weekend at Fountain Park Recreation Centre.

The provincial qualifier in the Alberta Summer Swimming Association will bring together 210 swimmers, including 51 Sailfish. Clubs in attendance include the Devon Dolphins, Drayton Valley Neptunes, Hinton Water Devils, Jasper Red Fins, North Edmonton Swim Club, Spruce Grove Barracudas, Stony Plain Sharks, Westlock Gators, Whitecourt Blue Dolphins and the Sailfish.

In total, 830 swims will take place today and Sunday.

The top two swimmers in each event advance to provincials next Saturday in Calgary.

Speed demon Duncan Maguire and national sevens’ player Kyle Gilmour from St. Albert’s premier men’s provincial championship team scored two tries apiece for the Prairie Wolf Pack last weekend in Calgary.

The 31-25 victory over the Ontario Blues in the first round in the Canadian Rugby Championship fixtures was decided on a late try by the Wolf Pack. They led 17-10 at the break, and held a 14-point advantage with 30 minutes left on the clock. The Blues (1-1) stormed back with 15 unanswered points before the 2010 playoff finalists rebounded with the clinching score.

On Tuesday in Calgary, the Wolf Pack dropped a 29-8 loss to the Atlantic Rock (1-1) in a rematch of last year’s final. Kyle Baillie, a forward with St. Albert’s first 15, played for the Newfoundland-based Rock.

St. Albert standouts Adam Bontus and Jake Robinson also saw action for the Wolf Pack. Robinson and Gilmour are returning players with the Wolf Pack, who call Calgary home.

The Wolf Pack are back on the pitch next Saturday against British Columbia (1-1) in Kelowna. St. Albert’s firsts also play that day at home against the Strathcona Druids (3-4-1).

Meanwhile, second place is on the line today in the Alberta Cup, when St. Albert (5-3) battles the Calgary Saints (5-1-1) at 3:30 p.m. in Calgary. The firsts are undefeated in five matches.
