Madelyn Curle of the St. Albert Skyhawks was a double medallist at the Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association track and field championships last weekend in Lethbridge.
In the junior female division, Curle was the high jump winner at 1.60 metres and the 200m runner-up at 26.30 seconds.
The St. Albert Mustangs track club athlete qualified for provincials as the Edmonton zone’s top high jumper at 1.56m and second-place finisher in the 200m at 26.83.
The following St. Albert athletes also achieved podium results at provincials.
Catherine Kluyts, Paul Kane Blues: second – junior female 80m hurdles at 12.28 seconds.
Brooklyn Failing, Paul Kane: second – senior female high jump at 1.55m.
Jakob Brinkhof, Bellerose Bulldogs: second – senior male shot put at 13.34m.
Volunteers are still needed for the 24th annual St. Albert Kids of Steel triathlon on Sunday morning at Fountain Park Recreation Centre.

The final registration totals for the event are 255 triathletes and six teams.
Last year 315 individuals (154 females and 161 males) and five teams finished their races and two years ago 263 competitors (138 females and 125 males) and nine teams went the distance.
The Kids of Steel features youths between the ages of four and 19 competing on swim-bike-run course that varies in distance according to age group, as well as the junior elite (16 to 19) and U23 divisions and the race distances are the 750-metre swim, 18.4-km bike (draft legal) and five-km run.
League play continues Thursday for the midget AAA St. Albert Cardinals against SEEBA 1 in the NorWest midget AAA circuit.
The first pitch is 7 p.m. at John Fry Park.
SEEBA is 6-3 and the Cardinals are 6-5 after losing two out of three games last weekend in Okotoks.
In Saturday’s doubleheader the Cardinals scored five runs in their first at-bat but Okotoks Dawgs Black replied with two in the bottom of the first and two more in the second, en route to the 10-6 win. Defensive miscues late in the game allowed Dawgs Black (5-1) to overtake the visitors.
The next game the Cardinals rallied from an 8-2 deficit with six runs in the top of the seventh against the Calgary Junior Dinos (2-2). The Red Birds batted around the order while bringing 11 players to the plate. A combination of hits and walks loaded the bases for Erik Sabrowski with two out and the Dinos leading by three. Sabrowski cleared the bases with a powerful double to deep centre. The next batter, Anthony Owen, singled home Sabrowski for the go-ahead run with a shot to left field.
In the bottom of the seventh the first-two Dinos reached base and with none out and runners at first and second Mat Brisson replaced starter Cole Sietz and shut the next three batters down in order to cap off the comeback victory.
Peter Corrigan led the hit parade with three, including a bases-loaded double to score the team’s first two runs.
Sunday against Okotoks Dawgs Red (11-4) both starting pitchers didn’t last two innings and after two complete it was 9-7 for the home team. The final score was 19-11 as the Cardinals dropped to 1-3 against Dawgs Red.
Adam Hardinge fired four goals and Pat McGinley filled the net three times for the St. Albert Crude in Saturday’s 13-9 win over the Okotoks Marauders at Akinsdale Arena.
Simon Hansen chipped in with two goals and five assists as the junior B Tier I team recorded its fourth win of the season in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.
Chayse Austin also potted a pair and Owen Feist and Cam Ellingson added singles.
The Crude outscored the visitors 7-2 in the middle frame. The Marauders (1-8) struck four times on the power play and once on the penalty kill, compared to three goals with the man advantage and one shorthanded for the home team.
Thursday the Crude host the Sherwood Park Titans (2-9) at 8:30 p.m. The teams have already met twice. In Sherwood Park the Crude posted wins of 7-6 and 10-6.
The senior B St. Albert Miners are no longer the team to beat in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League after losing to the Rockyview Knights for the second time this season.
Both losses were identical 9-8 scores: Saturday at Go Auto Arena and May 10 in Airdrie.
In the rematch the Knights deposited their eighth goal 77 seconds after Graedon Cornfield’s second maker and third point tied it at seven 38 seconds into the third period for the 2014 Presidents’ Cup national bronze medallists and provincial champions.
The Knights made it 9-7 with 13:37 remaining and captain Jordan Cornfield’s second goal and fourth point closed out the scoring with 22 seconds to go.
The Knights posted period leads of 2-1 and 7-6. They also scored the only power-play goal of the night to break a 5-5 stalemate with 2:12 left in the second.
Darren Kinnear tallied twice and Ryan Davis and Pearce Just added singles.
The Miners are 6-2 after the loss and the Knights improved to 8-1 in Sunday’s 12-4 win over the South Edmonton Warriors (1-7) at Bill Hunter Arena.
The Miners are in Sherwood Park on Saturday to play the Outlaws (2-4) at 6 p.m.
