GOLDEN GIRLS – The St. Albert Impact U18 female soccer team was crowned the Tier II provincial champions after shutting out Edmonton Southwest 5-0 Sunday in Medicine Hat. Nine of the U18 players will play for the Impact women’s division one team at Tier II provincials next weekend in Calgary.

The St. Albert Impact U18 female soccer team is the Tier II provincial gold medallists after going undefeated in last weekend’s championship tournament in Medicine Hat.

The Impact are Anne Perrault, Grace Gerrard, Brittany Boe, Danica Blasius, Sam Streets, Mikayla Ferriera, Olivia Ortman, Emily Miller, Chelsea Fitzgerald, Brooklyn Robert, Rebecca Burchett, Ali Croisetiere, Nicole Nobrega, Allissa Schneider, Shaley Marino, Andrea McCann, Cassandra Sanregret and Maha Shawar. The head coach is Brian Murphy.

In Sunday’s final Perrault, Gerrard, Boe, Blasius and Streets scored and Ferriera posted the shutout in the 5-0 win over Edmonton Southwest.

The Impact kicked off the tournament with a 12-0 rout of the Millwoods Selects. Blasius led the attack with four goals, Boe, Fitzgerald and Gerrard had a pair each and Croisetiere and Perrault added singles.

The Impact’s 10-3 victory over the Cochrane Rangers was highlighted by Blasius’ hat-trick and two-goal-efforts by Boe, Fitzgerald and Perrault. Gerrard also scored.

Boe’s three goals and Perrault’s single accounted for all the scoring in the 4-0 decision against SWU Dynamite of Calgary.

Meanwhile, nine U18 Impact players also play for Murphy’s division 1B women’s team in the Edmonton District Soccer Association that qualified for the Tier II provincials next weekend in Calgary.

The Impact finished first at 10-2-2 with a goal differential of plus-21 for promotion into the premier division next year.

In the crossover playoff against AC Milan, the top division 1A team at 10-1-3, the Impact won 4-3 for a provincial berth.

Fitzgerald was the Impact team’s top scorer in league play with seven and Brittany Kindzierski notched six.

The Impact completed their season goal of winning the Tier II provincial championship in Sunday’s 3-2 decision against Calgary Blizzard 01 in Fort McMurray.

The Impact are Cara Schlottke, Oriah Martin-Coates, Ashlee Rodgers, Sarah Gervais, Julia McDougall, Makayla Mudryk, Breyar Shykowski, Holly Heron, Evangelene Doring-Lindgreen, Ava Buchsdruecker, Jordan Mar, Maggie Ehalt, goalkeepers Sierra Buchsdruecker and Chloe Gamble and co-captains Ava Jahns and Kimberley Wood. Head coach is Candice Jahns and assistants are Dave Schlottke and Peter Coates.

In the final Gervais, McDougall and Wood scored in the first half.

Down 3-0, Calgary came out in the second half with more pressure and aggressiveness than in the first half. With eight minutes to play, Calgary scored its second goal off a direct kick.

After the goal the Impact registered six shots on net before the match ended.

Sierra Buchsdruecker also dove to the corner to stop one of Calgary’s last shots.

In pool play the Impact were the only undefeated team in both pools. The Impact defeated Inter, an Edmonton team that finished below them in the Edmonton Interdistrict Youth Soccer Association Tier II standings, 3-1 despite training by one at halftime. Ava Buchsdruecker, McDougall and Mar scored in the comeback.

The Impact also beat Calgary Foothills 4-1 on goals by Buchsdruecker, Doring-Lindgren, Mudryk and Rodgers and Medicine Hat 2-0 as Buchsdruecker and Gervais found the back of the net.

In league play the Impact finished first at 14-1-1, with 55 goals for and only seven against.

In three Tier I tournaments the Impact medaled twice, including silver in the Kelowna Canada Day Tournament.

Mark Noskovic was the runaway winner of the St. Albert Men’s Soccer League’s Golden Boot Award with 25 goals for the first-place Rummies.

The previous high recently was 16 by Brian van Essen of the Rummies in 2008 and Matt Starcheski of Chester City in 2010 and 2011.

Terry Esposito of GSE was this year’s runner-up with 18 goals.

Last year Noskovic finished in a five-way tie for second place in scoring with 13 goals.

In league play the Rummies (12-0-2) and GSE (9-3-2) finished first and second, respectively, for Tier III provincial berths next weekend in Calgary. They also drew byes into the league’s Sept. 8 semifinals. The final is Sept. 15 at 3 p.m. at Poplar field.

Last year at Tier IV provincials the Rummies won bronze for their 12th provincial medal in team history and GSE finished 1-3.

In the league final GSE blanked the Rummies 1-0 for its first playoff cup in only the team’s second SAMSL season.
