The second home game in a row for the junior A St. Albert Miners against the Calgary Raiders starts at 5:30 p.m. today at Go Auto Arena.
Friday’s result between the Miners (4-5) and Raiders (5-2-1) in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League was unavailable at press time.
The first win after three losses for the Miners was Wednesday’s 8-5 decision against the last-place Titans (1-8) in Sherwood Park.
The latest RMLL scoring stats list Nik Farrus as the team’s top point producer with 30 in seven games. Cody Moon ranks second at 23 points in six games and Brad Watson is third at 21 in seven games.
Watson leads the Miners in goals with 12 and Farrus has 11.
Erik Sabrowski of the midget AAA St. Albert Cardinals threw a gem in Wednesday’s pitching duel against the Spruce Grove White Sox.
Sabrowski allowed one run in six innings while fanning three as the Cardinals edged the hometown White Sox 2-1 in the NorWest Midget AAA Baseball League.
Sabrowski held the White Sox to four hits for his third win of the season. He faced 25 batters and walked five, committed one balk during an 87-pitch outing of 53 strikes and 34 balls.
Mat Brisson shut the White Sox down in order in the seventh on nine pitches.
White Sox starter Logan Cameron gave up three hits while striking-out six and walking three. He threw 59 strikes and 32 balls against 28 batters.
Matt Quartel and Conor Bronson scored in the second inning as the Cardinals capitalized on some White Sox errors.
Quartel stroked a double, Bronson and Tylor Jans added singles and Tyler Schwendeman had one RBI in the win.
The White Sox got on the board in the fourth before Sabrowski shut the door.
Solid defensive plays by Jans, a first-year midget AAA pitcher making a rare start at third base, helped keep the score intact.
The Cardinals are 5-3 (the new NorWest website lists the team’s record at 5-2) and the White Sox are 7-5.
This weekend, the 2014 national silver medallists and provincial champions are in Okotoks to play the Dawgs Black (4-0), Calgary Dinos (2-1) and Dawgs Red (8-4).
Wednesday’s game against SEEBA 1 (6-3) starts at 7 p.m. at John Fry Park.
A pair of St. Albert athletes with the Horizon Gymnastics Club showed off their skills at the Canmore Summit Invitational last weekend.
Paige Luttrell was the all-around Level 2 Argo winner with first-place marks on bars and floor and second-place results on vault and beam.
Chloe Gray placed sixth all-around in Level 3 Argo with fifth-place scores on vault, beam and floor and was seventh on bars.
