It kicks off this weekend as Canada plays Australia, Samoa and Scotland in pool C action.
Earlier this year Gilmour played for the national sevens at International Rugby Board events in New Zealand and Las Vegas.
Gilmour, 23, is coming off a Rounsefell Cup provincial championship victory with the Castaway Wanderers in the British Columbia Rugby Union premier division. The standout flanker was also honoured by the Castaways as their most improved premier player this year.
Last year the Edmonton Rugby Union senior player of the year in 2009 was a valuable starter with the Calgary-based Prairie Wolf Pack, finalists at the Canadian Rugby Championship. The former St. Albert Skyhawk also played a major role in St. Albert winning its first-ever premier men’s provincial championship.
St. Albert prop Andy Tiedemann is going to his third-straight Churchill Cup with Team Canada.
Tiedemann, 22, already has nine caps playing for Canada.
At the Churchill Cup in England, Canada scrums down against Italy A on June 4 and Russia on June 8 in pool play.
Last year Canada made its first ever trip to the final, only to lose 38-18 to England Saxons B team.
Tiedemann is a high school rugby product of the Paul Kane Blues who completed his fifth season for the University of Victoria Vikes in the British Columbia Rugby Union premier division.
He is also a candidate to make the national team for the 2011 World Cup, Sept. 9 to Oct. 23 in New Zealand. Canada is grouped in pool A with New Zealand, France, Tonga and Japan.
St. Albert synchronized swimmers Kate Chernoff and Sydney Heigh returned home with medals from the MASY Challenge Western Canadian Championships in Winnipeg.
The U12 girls were awarded silver for their duet and gold in the team event with the Edmonton Auroras.
The winning U12 line-up of Auroras included Ryann Veran, Allison Mercier, Amy Parker and Kendra Melnychuk. Parker also earned gold in solo.
Westerns is an invitational competition featuring the top clubs in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the Yukon.
Last month at provincials Chernoff and Heigh were presented silver in duet and gold in the team swim with the Auroras.
St. Albert Steel centre Reed Linaker has committed to Pennsylvania State University for its inaugural 2012/13 NCAA division one season.
Linaker, 19, is one of the first players to receive a scholarship since the announcement last September of Penn State’s new hockey program.
The Alberta Junior Hockey League all-star will complete his fourth and final season with the Steel before going to Penn State.
In 141 career games with the Steel, the midget AAA product of the Maple Leafs Athletic Club recorded 82 goals (33 on the power play), 91 assists, 173 points and 336 penalty minutes. The O’Leary High School graduate is within striking distance of the all-time franchise marks held by Bryce Williamson for games played (179), goals (102), assists (136), points (238) and power play goals (44).
