The Paul Kane Blues will play kick to win Tuesday for a metro Edmonton high school championship banner.
Game time is 4:15 p.m. between Paul Kane and the Strathcona Christian Academy Eagles in the city conference division II men’s soccer final at Victoria Soccer Club.
Paul Kane is 3-4-1 and the Eagles are 3-4-1.
This is the first year for a city conference men’s division II playoff bracket in metro league soccer.
Paul Kane and the Eagles finished fifth in their respective pools to miss the city conference playoff cutline and were awarded byes in the division II quarterfinals.
In Wednesday’s semifinals Paul Kane pulled out a last-minute 2-1 win over the Oscar Romero Ravens (2-5-1) and the Eagles prevailed 3-1 over the Bellerose Bulldogs (3-6).
The last Paul Kane men’s soccer championship was the 2008 city conference title.
Two players from the St. Albert Impact U16 Tier I boys will compete for Team Alberta at the Canadian Soccer Association championship all-star tournaments.
Zach Rochat was selected to the U15 team and Noah Cunningham was named to the U16 team for the July 16 to 20 tournaments in Laval, Que.
The process to make Team Alberta started with the players being scouted at league games for invites to attend the provincial training program in January and February. They were later shortlisted for a week-long spring training camp in Vancouver involving games against the B.C. provincial squads and the Vancouver Whitecaps residence academy teams.
The next step was a regional north tryout in Spruce Grove, followed by the final selection camps last weekend in Airdrie and Lacombe.
The St. Albert Miners are picking up the pieces from a devastating 9-8 loss to the last-place Spruce Grove Slash on Wednesday in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.
The Slash, winless in eight senior B matches before knocking off the 2012 provincial finalists, outscored the Miners 3-1 in the third period and netted the game winner with 3:59 to play at Grant Fuhr Arena.
The Slash led 6-4 after the first period but trailed 7-6 going into the third.
Chris Schmidt, Sean Reid and Jason Riley potted two goals apiece and captain Nate Schmidt and Graedon Cornfield notched singles.

The Miners and the Outlaws tangle again Friday at 8 p.m. at Bill Hunter Arena.
Saturday the Miners host the provincial champion Rockyview Knights (7-0) of Airdrie at 6 p.m.
