The last game in the condensed midget spring league season for the St. Albert Storm is Friday’s division one consolation playoff against the Battle River Shock.

Kickoff is 6:30 p.m. at Riel Recreation Park and admission is $5.

Both teams finished 1-4 in league play and the Storm’s lone win was 14-10 over the Shock in St. Albert.

The Storm ranked last in the six-team standings in points scored (51) and points against (138).

The Storm’s last game before the playoffs was Saturday’s 27-6 loss to the Edmonton Chargers (4-1) at Clarke Park.

Late in the fourth quarter, quarterback Anthony Beaulieu hooked up with Jace Mix for a 25-yard touchdown.

Last year in division two, the Storm beat the winless Leduc Cats twice – including the consolation final – and finished 2-4 overall.

Midget football consists of players in Grade 9 who completed their bantam eligibility and Grade 10 and 11 players.

The puck drops today at the Alberta Challenge in Medicine Hat for nine females from St. Albert and Sturgeon County.

They are among 120 players born in 2000-01 selected from zone camps in northern and southern Alberta for the six-team Hockey Alberta tournament.

The North Red Wings feature netminder Alexis Bruce, defenceman Rachel Hierlmeier and forwards’ Kendra Johnston, Sophie Lalor and Makenna Schuttler.

The North Predators’ lineup includes defenceman Grace Borle and forwards Payden Bialowas and Jayme Doyle.

Skating with the North Royals is forward Kylie Foisy.

Hockey Alberta’s inaugural Peewee Prospects Cup for males born in 2002 will feature 15 players from St. Albert and Sturgeon County at the May 7 to 10 event in Olds.

More than 750 players from across the province participated in four regional camps last weekend and eight teams (two from each camp) were selected.

Edmonton Green consists of netminders’ Ethan Barwick and Blake Lyda and forwards’ Ethan McKinley, Ryley Morgan, Matthew Reidy and Carter Savoie.

Edmonton Royal includes defencemen Michael Benning, Tanvir Harbaaz Grewal and Langley Kruggel and forwards’ Drew Kuzma, Ethan Leyer and Dylan McFatridge.

Listed on the North Blue roster are forwards Raphael Pelletier and Austin Spiridakis.

Defenceman Tye Pedersen will play for North Grey.

The St. Albert Women’s Soccer League kicks off its 20th season May 12 with two matches on tap at Forest Park field.

The 11-team single round robin wraps up in mid-July to determine the five division one teams and six division two teams. They play another single round robin before the playoffs start.

All 11 teams are back from last year, including the 20-0 Mavericks 09 as winners of the Alberta Soccer Association Tier 3 provincial championship and SAWSL division one playoff cup.
