Tuesday’s final between the St. Albert Skyhawks and Holy Trinity Trojans in metro Edmonton division two women’s soccer kicks off at 4:15 p.m. at the ESA Complex.
Both teams are undefeated in seven matches after finishing first in their respective pools in league play.
In Tuesday’s semifinals the Skyhawks (40 GF/six GA) posted a 5-1 win over the O’Leary Spartans (5-1) at Eldorado field and the Trojans (30 GF/five GA) prevailed 2-1 against the Austin O’Brien Crusaders (4-2).
The Skyhawks led 2-1 at halftime on goals by Jenny Song on a free kick and Stephanie Parth off a great feed by Maria Cyzy.
The second half was a back and forth affair until Amy Gunn scored from just inside the box to make it 3-1. Song pumped in two more goals on free kicks to round out the scoring.
In net was Ailbhe Muldon, who recorded the 4-0 shutout against the Oscar Romero Ravens (4-2) in quarter-final action at Riel Park.
Last year the Skyhawks won the division two consolation final after losing the 2013 division two final. The last metro championship, and the fourth in team history, was 2010 in the city conference.
The first loss of the season for the Paul Kane Blues was Wednesday’s semifinal in metro Edmonton division two men’s soccer.
Adam Closson scored the team’s lone goal in the 5-1 setback against the Queen Elizabeth Knights in Edmonton.
Dan Sperling was outstanding at sweeper while blocking five shots for the 3-1-2 Blues (17 GF/12 GA). Both ties were identical 2-2 stalemates against the St. Albert Skyhawks, last year’s division three champions, and Bellerose Bulldogs.
The Knights improved to 6-1 (31 GF/14 GA).
The Blues kicked off the playoff in last week’s 1-0 victory over the McNally Tigers (4-2) as Kieran O’Neil posted the shutout.
The St. Albert Impact Rangers tallied three times in the second half before giving up the equalizer late in Monday’s 3-3 division 1A draw against the Edmonton Warriors at Riel Park.
It was 2-0 Warriors at halftime before the Rangers got rolling as Mike Thompson potted a pair and affiliate Dan Czwartkowski also scored.
Thompson leads the Rangers in goals with four.
Both teams are 3-1-2 in the Edmonton District Soccer Association table.
The Rangers play Polonia (0-5-1) Monday at 8:15 p.m. at ESA Complex.
The next home match for the St. Albert Impact premier women is Tuesday versus the Green & Gold/FCM in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.
Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Riel Park.
The Impact are 1-2-2 and the Green & Gold is 3-1-1.
The last match for the Impact after two ties was Tuesday against Angels Scottish SC (3-1-1) but it was postponed because of wet fields at Riel Park.
The St. Albert Impact division 1B women suffered their second loss of the season in Wednesday’s 1-0 contest against ASC Inter at Rollie Miles field.
Late in the first half the Impact hit a crossbar in their bid for the equalizer.
The Impact are 4-2 and Inter is 4-0-3 in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.
Sunday the Impact play the first-place Hearts United (6-0) at 7 p.m. at Riel Park.
The St. Albert Impact division 3A women enter Monday’s match against the Lightning Ladies as winners of six in a row in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.
Kickoff is 8:15 p.m. at the ESA Complex.
The undefeated Impact have outscored teams 24-2 and the Lightning’s record is 0-4-1.
The Impact’s last win was 3-1 against Infinity SC/Static (1-1-3) this week at Riel Park.
