The St. Albert Rangers extended their undefeated streak to eight matches in Monday’s division 1A shutout at the ESA Complex.
Tatenda Muchenje, veteran Mike Thompson and rookie Sam Godfrey scored in the 3-0 decision against E & C United in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.
Godfrey’s goal was his first of the outdoor season.
Zach Black returned from a nagging foot injury to start in net as the Rangers (4-1-4) recorded their third victory in a row.
Noah Boyko’s scoring streak of eight goals in five consecutive matches ended Monday but the flashy forward was still a threat on the pitch as he set-up Tatenda, a Rangers’ newcomer, after disposing of a defender deep in United’s end.
Boyko’s eight goals ranks second in the division scoring race.
The Rangers are 4-0-4 after losing their season-opener 3-1 to United (3-4-2).
The next match is July 10 versus the Edmonton Warriors (5-1-2) at 8:15 p.m. at the ESA Complex.
The second win in three matches for the St. Albert Impact division 1A women’s team was recorded Monday at Riel Park.
Melanie Seidel tallied twice, Jessica Seutter and Kelsey Carter notched singles and Miranda Klein was the goalkeeper in the 4-1 result against the Edmonton Warriors (1-7-1) in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.
The Impact (2-4-3) are back on the pitch July 10 against Azzurri (3-3-1) at 6:30 p.m. at Riel Park.
The first-place St. Albert Impact hosts Mexico FC in Tuesday’s division 2A men’s match in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.
Kickoff is 6:30 p.m. at Riel Park.
The Impact (5-1-1) are seven points ahead of Mexico (3-3) in the standings.
The last match for the Impact was rained out this past Tuesday at Queen Elizabeth High School.
The Impact’s first loss of the season was 3-2 against the second-place Leduc United/British Rovers FC (5-2) June 20 in Leduc.
Scott Robson leads the Impact in scoring with six goals.
