The Paul Kane Blues and St. Albert Skyhawks reached the quarter-finals in metro Edmonton division two women’s soccer after posting winning results in the round of 16.
Wednesday’s kick-off time is 4 p.m. between the Blues (5-0) and Lillian Osborne Legends (4-1) at Forest Park Field and the Skyhawks (4-1) against the SFX Rams (4-0-1) at St. Francis Xavier High School.
The semifinals are May 31 and the final is June 2 at 4:30 p.m. at the ESA Complex.
The playoffs started with wins of 3-0 for the Blues over the Louis St. Laurent Barons (0-4) and 2-0 for the Skyhawks, the defending division two champions, over the Beaumont Bandits (1-3).
The St. Albert Rangers spread the scoring around during their third win in a row in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.
Five players contributed offensively in the 6-0 shutout of Red Hill FC in Monday’s division 1A match at Riel Park.
Matteo Bruni opened the scoring and Dave Letourneau made it 2-0 off a great header before halftime.
Noah Boyko tallied twice and Will Backhouse and Jon Mark added singles to close out the contest against Red Hill (0-4).
Boyko is the team leader in goals with three.
Zach Black started in net before switching to the outfield in the second half as Daniel Loconte took over as keeper.
The victory marked the second and last home appearance for the Rangers (3-1) and will now play eight of their remaining 10 matches at the ESA Complex. In contrast, the St. Albert Impact division 1B men’s team (0-2) has six of its 14 matches scheduled for Riel Park.
The Rangers are back in action May 30 against the Drillers (3-1) at 6:30 p.m. at the ESA Complex.
The St. Albert Impact premier women are winless in two matches when they play the top team in the Edmonton District Soccer Association on Tuesday.
Kickoff is 6:30 p.m. between the Impact (2-2) and Green & Gold (4-0-1) at the ESA Complex.
The last match for the Impact was Tuesday’s 1-0 loss on a late goal to Hearts United (1-3-1) at Riel Park.
The St. Albert Impact division 1B women’s team scored four fewer goals in Wednesday’s blowout than last year’s total.
The Impact (2-1-1) racked up 11 goals against Wind/Heat (0-4-1) after posting 16 overall during their 8-5-3 campaign in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.
The Impact found the back of the net twice this season before the 11-1 rout at Riel Park.
Chelsea Fitzgerald recorded a hat-trick before the 15-minute mark and finished with four goals.
Samantha Bourbonnais potted a pair and Shannon MacGillivary, Erika Ippolito, Shelby Oshust, Olivia Orman and Mickel Yuzdepski also scored. Ashley Chaput was in net.

The St. Albert Impact division 1B men’s team lost a heated 1-0 affair against AC Milan on Wednesday in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.
Nico Molina and Scott Lysenko turned in strong performances against AC Milan (1-1) at Riel Park.
The Impact (0-2) plays Croatia Hajduk (1-0) this Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Croatia Soccer Club.
Thursday’s division 2A women’s match between the St. Albert Impact and FC Magic at the ESA Complex was postponed because of the severe and sudden change in air quality.
The Alberta Health Services advisory affected all the Edmonton District Soccer Association matches that night.
The Impact are 1-1 this season after last week’s 4-2 loss to Phoenix FC (2-0) at Riel Park.
