The third win in a row for St. Albert Impact/Inter SC was also the second in three days by the same 3-0 score.
Izzy Dobbin, Keara Quinn and Alanna Mawhinney’s division-leading eighth goal pushed Impact/Inter (5-2) past St. Albert Impact 1 (2-4) Tuesday at Riel Park and Dobbin, Marissa Duguay and Shawna Sayaphet scored against Hearts United (1-4) Sunday at Foote Field.
Tianna Groeneveld was in net for both victories and in the 75th minute against Impact 1 pulled off a dazzling save on a ball that was headed top corner to keep the clean sheet intact for the second time this season.
The match featured three trialists from the St. Albert Impact U17 Tier 1 team coached by Rob Bourbonnais, who also coaches Impact/Inter. Kennady Hay and Marisa Roaquin played for Impact/Inter and Megan Algeo saw action with Impact 1.
On tap for Impact/Inter is Green & Gold (5-0) at 4 p.m. Sunday and Northwest United (6-0), the defending champion, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the ESA Complex.
Impact/Inter is battling both teams for top spot as a first-year premier team in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.
The next matches for Impact 1 are Sunday against host Victoria (2-2) at 7 p.m. and Tuesday against Angels Scottish SC 3 (1-4) at 6:30 p.m. at Riel Park.
Meanwhile, the third St. Albert team in the division, Impact Premier (2-2-1), recorded a 2-2 draw against Angels Scottish SC 2 (1-3-1) Tuesday in St. Albert.
Goal scorers were Brittany Kinderzinski and Jazzmyn Mauthe.
Sunday’s match against Dreadnought starts at 3:30 p.m. at Strathcona Athletic Park and Tuesday’s kick-off against Hearts United is 6:30 p.m. at Rollie Miles Athletic Park.
The St. Albert Rangers kick the ball twice in three days in division 1A men’s soccer.
The Rangers (1-1-3) play the Drillers (0-2-3) tonight at 6 p.m. at the ESA Complex and the Ital-Canadians (0-4-1) Monday at 8:15 p.m. at Foote Field.
The Rangers have points in their last four matches after losing the season-opener 3-1 to E & C United (1-2-2) in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.
Noah Boyko is the team leader in goals with three and they were scored in the second half of Monday’s 4-4 draw with Africana FC (2-2-2). The Rangers trailed 4-1 at halftime.
Monday’s division 1A women’s match between the St. Albert Impact and Rionero FC kicks off at 6:30 p.m. at Riel Park
Nine points separate second-place Rionero (4-1) and seventh-place Impact (0-2-3) in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.
The Impact’s last match was the 1-1 tie against the first-place Spruce Grove Saints (4-0-2) this week in St. Albert.
Brittany Pinto knotted the score early in the second half in support of goalkeeper Miranda Klein.
Last weekend the Impact and ASC Cyclones (0-4-1) played to a 3-3 draw at the ESA Complex.
Katrina Bonnycastle potted a pair and Pinto also scored. In net was Mikaela Ferreira.
Tuesday the St. Albert Impact division 2A men’s team hosts Strikers HPP at Riel Park.
Kickoff is 6:30 p.m. between the first-place Impact (4-0-1) and third-place Strikers (3-2) in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.
The Impact are coming off a 2-1 win over Steaua Redhill FC (1-3-1) Tuesday in St. Albert after settling for a 1-1 draw against FC Fizi (2-2-1) last weekend at Queen Elizabeth High School.
Redhill opened the scoring early in the second half on a penalty kick against goalkeeper Kurt Steendam and Justin Ammar slotted the equalizer in the 75th minute.
Scott Robson’s game winner, a penalty kick before injury time, was also his team-high fifth goal.
Cole Zmurchik tallied against Fizi and Ammar was in net.
The playoff run for the St. Albert Skyhawks ended with the last shot in a shootout in Tuesday’s metro Edmonton division two men’s semifinal.
The Skyhawks finished 4-2-1 after the 3-2 loss to the W.P. Wagner Warriors (7-1).
The Skyhawks also beat the Bellerose Bulldogs (2-3-1) by scores of 3-1 in pool C action and 4-2 in the quarter-finals after falling behind 2-0 at halftime in the playoff encounter.
Last year’s overall record for the Skyhawks was 2-3.
In Thursday’s final, Wagner posted a 3-2 win over the Queen Elizabeth Knights (6-1-1).
