The St. Albert Impact division 1B women are a step closer to a promotion into premier next year after winning Wednesday’s first-place showdown against Sherwood Park Phoenix.

The St. Albert Impact division 1B women are a step closer to a promotion into premier next year after winning Wednesday’s first-place showdown against Sherwood Park Phoenix.

Caitlyn Seguin and Hallee Peter scored in support of keeper Ashley Chaput in the 2-1 decision at Riel Park.

Peter’s goal was her eighth of the season for second place in the division scoring race. Chelsea Fitzgerald of the Impact is the top scorer with 12 goals.

The Impact (8-3-4) are now one point in front of Phoenix (8-4-3) with one match to go for both teams in league play.

Wednesday the Impact plays Angels Scottish Classic (7-1-4) at the Scottish Soccer Club and Phoenix hosts Wind/Heat (0-14-1) in Sherwood Park. Start times are 7 p.m.

The top two teams also qualify for the provincial playdowns.

Meanwhile, the Impact division 2A women are gearing up for their provincial playdowns with two matches left in the EDSA fixtures.

Sunday the first-place Impact (12-1-1) are in action against FC Magic (6-5-2) at 2 p.m. at O’Leary High School and Thursday’s game against Ice-Lodhar (2-9-3) starts at 7 p.m. at the ESA Complex.

The Impact are 11-0-1 in their last 12 matches after Thursday’s 7-0 victory over FC Excelsior (4-7-2) at the ESA Complex.

Lauren Jenkins racked up four goals, Jess Royer potted a pair and Michelle Brodeur also scored. Miranda Klein posted the shutout for last year’s first-place division 3A champions and Tier 3 provincial gold medallists.

The Impact will play in division one next year after capturing the division 2A pennant.

The St. Albert Impact division 1B team and the St. Albert Men’s Soccer League all-stars hook up in Sunday’s exhibition at 3 p.m. at Riel Park.

The Impact are 3-8-2 in the Edmonton District Soccer Association after Wednesday’s 3-0 loss to SWU PU (7-5-1) in a chippy affair at Riel Park.

The play of Daniel Ward, 16, and centre-back Scott Lysenko were the bright spots in the loss.

The last match of the season is Wednesday versus The Club (6-2-4) at 7 p.m. at the ESA Complex.

The biggest game of the year for the St. Albert Rangers kicks off Monday with second-place on the line in the division 1A men’s standings.

Start time is 7 p.m. between the Rangers (7-4-2) and Rising Stars (3-7-3) at the ESA Complex.

The Rangers have to beat the Stars and hope second-place Africana FC (7-3-3) loses its match against Man City (3-6-4) to secure second place and a berth in the Edmonton District Soccer Association provincial playdowns.

The Rangers lost both games against Africana this season by scores of 3-1 June 6 and 3-0 July 25.

Tuesday the St. Albert Impact premier women host Victoria in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.

Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Riel Park.

The teams share third place with identical 11-5 records.

The last match for the Impact was 6-1 over Strikers WHPP (1-14-1) at the ESA Complex.

Christina Huron tallied twice and Amy Byrne, Jazmyne Mauthe, Jade Deputan and the newly signed Andi Nippard also scored.

The season is over for the St. Albert Impact in the Tier 4 Virk men’s division after Tuesday’s loss at Riel Park.

The Impact dropped a 2-0 decision to World United FC (6-5-3) despite dominating time of possession.

The team of 16-, 17- and 18-year-olds finished their first season in the Edmonton District Soccer Association at 7-7.

Gheorghe Ruicea led all division scorers with 16 goals.
