The St. Albert Soccer Association has hired Chris Spaidal as its new executive director.

Spaidal will take over the SASA position from Melody Martyn, who is retiring next month.

Spaidal has been the executive director of the Grande Prairie Soccer Association since late 2007 and his presence had an impact on its programs and development of multiple new facilities.

Spaidal was also the head coach of the GPRC men’s and women’s varsity soccer programs, eight years for the men and six years for the women, and was the 2010/11 and 2012/13 Alberta Colleges’ Athletic Conference men’s north soccer coach of the year.

Spaidal hails from Vancouver Island, where he played his youth soccer, and has been in Alberta since 1988. He has worked in various levels of soccer, from grassroots up to the Canadian college level, and is a Canadian national B recognized coach and has been an Alberta Soccer Association coaching course instructor for the past few seasons.

Spaidal’s coaching experience includes various Alberta teams through the Arctic Winter Games, Alberta U16 male program at National All-Stars and the Alberta male team at the Canada Summer Games.

Spaidal has also achieved his United States Soccer Federation national B license and is working towards his Canadian A license.

The St. Albert Impact play first-place Rangers FC today in the Tier 4 Virk men’s division in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.

Kickoff is 4 p.m. at the ESA Complex.

The Rangers (6-0) have scored 30 goals and let in only four and the Impact (3-3) have a goal differential of plus-two.

The Impact are coming off a spirited 4-3 loss to World United FC (3-3-1) Tuesday at the ESA Complex.

Goal scorers were David Gutenberg, George Reboredo and Gheorge Ruicea.

Tuesday the Impact host ES Sporting (3-4) at 7 p.m. at Riel Park.

The St. Albert Impact premier women did all their scoring in the first half of Tuesday’s win in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.

Jessica Rankine and Jenna Kleebaum found the back of the net in the 2-0 result against Dreadnought (3-5) at Riel Park. Charlotte Lendzion posted the shutout.

The fourth win in five matches lifted the Impact (6-3) to within one point of the second-place Green & Gold (6-1-1) in the 10-team table.

The next contest is Tuesday versus Angels Scottish SC (4-4) at 7 p.m. at Riel Park.

The second win in three matches for the St. Albert Impact division 1B men was Wednesday’s effort against SWU PU.

Riju Roy and Alan Smith potted goals in the entertaining 2-1 affair at Confederation Park.

Goalkeeper Jason Krebes and Ahmed Ali also turned in strong performances against SWU (2-4).

The Impact (2-4) and The Club (1-1-4) hook up Wednesday in the Edmonton District Soccer Association. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Riel Park.

The first-place St. Albert Impact division 2A women extended their winning streak to seven matches Thursday in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.

Karen Vriens and Mel Seidal tallied two goals apiece and Kate Searle and Lauren Jenkins added singles in the 6-1 outcome against Celtic United (3-5-1) at Riel Park. It was 2-1 at halftime. In net was Taz Ortman.

The Impact (8-1) are in Sherwood Park on Thursday to play Dreadnought (4-3) at 7 p.m.
