The midget AAA St. Albert Slash responded to a rare loss with back-to-back 4-0 shutouts in the Alberta Female Hockey League.
Holly Borrett faced nine shots by the Edmonton Pandas (8-18) Friday at Bill Hunter Arena and Brianna Sank was tested 15 times by the Rocky Mountain Raiders (5-19-2) Saturday at Go Auto Arena.
The shutouts were the sixth for Sank (10-2, 1.00 GAA) and the fifth for Borrett (11-0, 0.73 GAA).
The Slash (21-2-1) were coming off a 3-2 loss to the host Calgary Fire (14-7-3) Jan. 27 that stopped a 12-game winning streak.
Bronwyn Boucher, Makenna Schuttler, Brooklyn Schroeder and Alexis Butz (power play) scored against the Pandas.
Schuttler and Riley Smith picked up two assists apiece.
Mackenzie Kordic in the first and Boucher, Natalie Kieser and Taylor Anker in the third did the damage against the Raiders in the team’s 10th straight home-ice victory.
Schroeder and Madison Willan each had two assists.
The Slash travel Saturday to play the Fire (14-7-3) at 4:15 p.m. at Max Bell Centre and Sunday’s start time is 8 p.m. against the Pandas at Go Auto Arena.
The two-time defending Esso Cup national champions skate into the weekend with six games remaining before hosting the Final Frozen Four, March 22 to 24, and the AFHL provincial champion will also host the British Columbia champion in the best-of-three Pacific Region qualifier for the Esso Cup, April 21 to 27 in Sudbury, Ont.
