Miners at home
The senior B St. Albert Miners have home floor advantage this weekend in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.Game times are 5 p.m. today against the Blackfalds Silvertips (0-10) and 12:30 p.m. Sunday against the Calgary Raiders (1-8) at Go Auto Arena.
The Miners are 11-0 after Wednesday’s 15-5 win against the host Beaumont Outlaws (5-6-1). It was 8-4 after two periods.
The Presidents’ Cup senior B national champions the last two years are 68-2-1 in league, playoffs and nationals since the start of the 2016 season.
Crude stopped
The third loss in a row for the St. Albert Crude was Thursday’s setback against the Fort Saskatchewan Rebels at Akinsdale Arena.The Rebels scored four times on the penalty kill and once on the power play in the 9-3 decision.
Guerin Nollski, Jorden McCuaig (power play) and Nathaniel Jackson replied for the Crude.
The Rebels (8-3) share first place with the Edmonton Warriors (8-4) and the Crude (3-9) are slotted third in the junior B Tier I north division of the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.
Tonight at 8 p.m. the Crude hosts the east division Manitoba Blizzard (9-0) and Sunday’s game against the fourth-place Sherwood Park Titans (1-9) is 2:30 p.m. at Strathcona Olympiette Centre.
Midget A Rams
The St. Albert Rams are undefeated in nine games as the No. 1-ranked midget A team in Alberta after polishing off the Parkland Posse 8-5 Wednesday at Kinex Arena.Mathieu Gautier’s hat trick led all scorers as the Rams improved to 11-3 in the Greater Edmonton Lacrosse Council.
Alex Sorochan and Seth Fairholm potted a pair each and Carter Albrecht also scored.
Parkland (9-6) is second in the league standings and third overall in the province.
The Calgary Axemen are second and the Calgary Sabrecats are fourth in the top-10 rankings.
The Rams and Parkland play again Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Coronation Arena and Thursday at 8 p.m. at Glenn Hall Centennial Arena.
The last game before the playoffs for the Rams is Friday against the Saskatchewan SWAT (1-4-1) at 9 p.m. at Bill Hunter Arena.
