SARFC matches

St. Albert Rugby Football Club teams are rucking and mauling today in Sherwood Park and Calgary.

Lynn Davies Rugby Park is the men’s venue for the Edmonton Rugby Union third division match between SARFC/Druids (0-2, 44 PF/94 PA) and Penguins/Reapers (1-2, 73 PF/116 PA) at 1 p.m., followed by the Alberta Cup premier division tilt between SARFC (2-1, 87 PF/86 PA) and Strathcona Druids (1-2, 60 PF/118 PA) at 4 p.m.

SARFC is chomping at the bit to avenge last year’s incredibly disappointing 23-13 Alberta Cup north semifinal loss to the Druids on the sacred SARFC pitch that ended two lengthy streaks: three Labatt’s Cup provincial championships in a row and nine straight appearances in the Ken Ann Cup north final for provincial qualification.

In the Alberta premier women’s league, SARFC (2-1, 123 PF/63 PA) plays the first-place Hornets (4-2, 303 PF/173 PA) at 4 p.m. at Calgary Rugby Park.

It’s the last of four matches against Calgary Rugby Union reps with five remaining, including three at home, against Edmonton Rugby Union teams before the Aug. 18 semifinals.

The Lep/Tigers (4-0, 2228 PF/40 PA) are the defending champions.

Last weekend, SARFC beat the fourth–place Saracens (3-3, 241 PF/153 PA) 41-24 in Calgary.

The tournament consists of four teams named after the four players.

Each team plays three round-robin games leading up to Sunday's playoff round.

All games last one hour and admission is free.
