The St. Albert Physical Education Council hosts its junior high basketball league finals Thursday at the SkyDome.

Game times are 5:30 p.m. for the girls and 7 p.m. for the boys.

The winners of Tuesday’s semifinals advance to the Tier I city championships.

The playoff pairings for the girls were No. 1 Richard S. Fowler Falcons versus No. 4 Lorne Akins Gators and No. 2 Vincent J. Maloney Marauders versus No. 3 William D. Cuts Crusaders and for the boys it was No. 1 Fowler against No. 4 Lorne Akins and No. 2 Morinville Wolves against No. 3 VJM.

Scores were unavailable at press time.

The results of the 2017 city finals were 47-39 Fowler against VJM for the girls and 55-50 Lorne Akins against Fowler for the boys.

U16B provincials

The Ringette Alberta U16B provincial championship starts 8 a.m. Friday at Servus Credit Union Place.

The 12-team tournament is divided into three pools and the St. Albert Ringette Association teams are Chaos and Steel.

The Steel games in pool B are Friday at 9:30 a.m. against Calgary Northwest Snipers and 2 p.m. against Beaumont Rush and Saturday at 8 a.m. against Bowview Adrenaline.

In pool C, Chaos plays Friday at 11 a.m. against Bowview Phantom and 4 p.m. against Strathmore Ice and Saturday at 9:30 a.m. against Lacombe Edge.

The playoffs begin at 3 p.m. Saturday and the medal finals are Sunday at 12:30 p.m. for bronze and 2:15 p.m. for gold at Go Auto Arena.

Indoor soccer

The Dieter Knobloch Memorial Adult Tournament kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday at Servus Credit Union Place.

Thirty teams from Alberta and Saskatchewan are competing in the co-ed and women’s divisions, including representation from the St. Albert Women’s Soccer League.

Matches run from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

The tournament honours one of the initial founders and life member of the St. Albert Soccer Association. Knobloch served in many capacities, from president to facilities manger, and the longtime head coach of the St. Albert Rangers was also an active referee.

Knobloch died June 30, 2010 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
