Kyle Gilmour of the St. Albert Rugby Football Club has been added to Canada’s 27-man roster for the Americas Rugby Championship.

Gilmour joins SARFC fullback Duncan Maguire and scrumhalf Jake Robinson, along with last year’s player/head coach, flanker Clay Panga, and former player Kyle Baillie, a second row who is now based in the Maritimes.

Gilmour, a flanker, replaces Evan Olmstead after the second row from Vancouver signed with London Scottish of the RFU Championship earlier this week.

Gilmour captained Canada at the 2014 ARC and has 14 test caps since making his debut in 2013.

The Edmonton Rugby Union’s senior player of the year in 2009 and 2013 signed with the Rotherham Titans after the 2015 Rugby World Cup and made five appearances: four in the British and Irish Cup and once in the RFU Championship.

Gilmour, Maguire and Robinson are high school rugby products of the St. Albert Skyhawks.

Canada kicks off its ARC fixtures today against Uruguay in Langford, B.C., before battling the USA Eagles on Feb. 13 in Austin, Texas.

Canada returns home Feb. 20 to play Brazil before going to South America for matches against Chile and Argentina.

Sydney De La Mare and Alexie Pusch of the St. Albert Rugby Football Club will compete for U18 Team Alberta at the Vancouver 7s tournament March 12 to 13.

De La Mare lined up at eight-man and Pusch was a standoff for the SARFC U19 juniors, last year’s Edmonton Rugby Union finalists.

De La Mare is a Grade 12 student who plays high school rugby with the Paul Kane Blues and Pusch is a Grade 11 St. Albert Catholic High School student who scrummed down last year with the Bellerose Bulldogs, the metro Edmonton division one finalists, because SACHS no longer has a rugby program.

Pusch also travelled to a 7s tournament in Colombia in December with the Dog River Howlers, an invitational rugby club, and De La Mare made the U17 Canada long list of 60 females last fall.

De La Mare is a ringette player with the St. Albert Mission U19AA belles and Pusch is a starting guard on the SACHS basketball team.

SARFC will also be represented by five juniors on the Edmonton Gold at the Vancouver 7s tournament.

William and Bobby Ford and Addison Huculak made the U18 boys and Claudia Hogan and Sydney Cook were picked for the U16 girls.
