Rugby matches
The St. Albert Rugby Football Club hosts two matches Thursday at 6:30 p.m.The SARFC premier division men line up against the Lep/Tigers and the division two women scrum down against the Nor’Westers in the Edmonton Rugby Union.
SARFC (219 PF/225 PA) and the Lep/Tigers (204 PF/211 PA) are 4-4 in the Alberta Cup table with two matches remaining as both teams battle for home-field advantage in the Sept. 15 north semifinals.
SARFC is 1-3 in its last four matches and the lone win was 31-15 at the Lep/Tigers.
SARFC (5-1, 305 PF/115 PA) is also in the mix to host a division two women’s semifinal Sept. 15 and the Nor’Westers (3-4, 309 PF314 PA) are a playoff long shot.
Sabres tryouts
Friday’s intersquad hockey game for the St. Albert Gregg Distributors Sabres starts at 6:45 p.m. at Garrison Arena.Sunday the Sabres face off against the host Sherwood Park Flyers in exhibition action at 5:30 p.m.
The season-opener for the 2018 provincial finalists in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League is Sept. 22 against the SSAC Southgate Lions at 12 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
Raiders tryouts
The main hockey camp tryouts for the St. Albert Nektar Data Systems Raiders at Akinsdale Arena starts with Friday’s practice sessions for six intersquad teams and ends with the Larry Mitchell Cup final Sunday between Team Blue and Team White at 2 p.m.Six one-hour intersquad sessions Saturday for the Haugan, Hunter, Iginla, Joseph, Lukan and Wack teams begin at 10 a.m. and the last mini game goes at 5:30 p.m.
The rosters for the Larry Mitchell Cup will be posted at www.raidershockey.ca.
The first exhibition is Sept. 10 against the KC Pats at 5:30 p.m. at Bill Hunter Arena.
The Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League lid-lifter for the Raiders is Sept. 29 against the Leduc Oil Kings at 8 p.m. and the pre-game ceremony for the home-opener will honour the St. Albert Raiders Hockey Club alumni killed in the Humboldt Broncos' bus crash April 6.
Slash tryouts
The season debut for the St. Albert Ron Hodgson Slash is Monday’s exhibition against the Edmonton Pandas at Go Auto Arena.Puck drop is 6:45 p.m. for the Alberta Midget AAA Female Hockey League teams.
Tryouts started Tuesday at Kinex Arena for the two-time defending AFHL provincial and Esso Cup national champions.
