A pair of St. Albert petite teams competed for medals in Sunday’s finals at the 30th annual Esso Golden Ring in Calgary.
The U12A Power lost 8-6 to the Sherwood Park Shock and the U12B Illusion fell 4-3 to the Lethbridge Lunachix.
The Power finished 4-1, with victories of 7-0 against the Cochrane Rockies, 9-2 against the Vancouver Reign, 10-3 against the S. Calgary Ambush and 4-3 against the Rockies.
The Power are hosting the March 18 to 20 Ringette Alberta U12A petite championship.
The Illusion reached the final with victories of 6-5 against the Indus Lightning, 9-2 against the C. East Nitemare, 8-2 against the Calgary NW XLR8, 7-6 against the Calgary BV Boom and 7-5 against the Sherwood Park Shock.
The U10-2 Phantoms and Legends, U10-3 Snipers, U12C Xtreme, U14AA Mission, U14A Edge, U14B Sabotage, U16B Blackout, 16AA Mission, 16A Royals, U16B Smash and U19AA Mission also competed in what is billed as the world’s largest ringette tournament.
The three Mission AA team were a combined 4-7-2 at the Golden Ring.
The U19AA belles posted a 1-2-2 record, with 14 goals and 22 against.
The U16AA juniors split four games while scoring 16 times and giving up 18.
The juniors are 22-10-3 overall when they play U19A Edmonton on Sunday at 10:45 a.m. at Callingwood Arena.
The 14AA tweens won their tournament opener before dropping three in a row. They recorded 11 goals and 13 against.
The tweens hosted U16A Edmonton Friday but the score was unavailable at press time.
The game against U16A Leduc starts Sunday at 2:15 p.m. at Troy Murray Arena.
The last tournament before provincials is the Feb. 5 to 7 Sherwood Park U14AA Friendship Series and the tweens have games on tap against Calgary, Zone 2, Edmonton and the host team.
The AA provincials for the three Mission teams are Feb. 26 to 28 and the Central Alberta Sting are hosting.
The belle and junior nationals are April 3 to 9 in London, Ont. and westerns for the tweens are March 23 to 26 in Richmond, B.C.
Last year, the belles finished 34-14-1 as bronze medallists and the juniors placed seventh while going 31-12-3.
The tweens ended up 24-21-4 after a seventh-place result at westerns.
The AA rosters feature eight returning belles, nine juniors are back and three tweens remain with the team.
This is the third season for the U19AA and U16AA programs in the St. Albert Ringette Association and the fourth for the U14AA tweens.
