The St. Albert Men’s Soccer League two-game aggregate playoff finals will be completed Sunday at Larry Olexiuk Field.
The playoff cup and third-place trophy will be awarded after the opening-round matches were played Tuesday at Salisbury field.
Scores were unavailable between the Forest Park Rangers (15-2-1) and Impact Alumni (13-3-2) in the playoff cup match and the DV Youngmen (7-9-2) and Chester City (8-10) in the third-place match.
Sunday’s kick-off times are 1 p.m. for the third-place trophy and 3 p.m. for the playoff cup.
Forest Park and Impact split their season series. Scores were 5-0 for Forest Park and 2-0 for the Impact.
Chester beat the Youngmen 4-0 and 4-1 in league play.
Last weekend’s semifinal results determined the playoff pairings. Forest Park defeated the Youngmen 5-3 and the Impact blanked Chester 3-0.
Forest Park, last year’s playoff cup finalist and this year’s SAMSL pennant winner as the league rep at the Alberta Soccer Association Tier III provincials, was led by Stephen Schiavone, who dominated both ways as a central midfielder while pumping in three goals against the Youngmen.
Amrit Saraf and Rylan Durocher also notches singles for Forest Park (73 GF/24 GA).
SAWSL playoffs
The St. Albert Women’s Soccer League finals kick into action Sunday at Forest Park field.
Game times are 5 p.m. between Mavericks 09 (14-0) and Morinville Ladies (8-5-1) in division one and the St. Albert Blaze (5-9) plays the Devils (8-4) or Gini’s (2-9-2) for division two honours.
Last weekend’s semifinal scores were 3-1 for Mavericks 09 against the Kickers (7-7) and 6-1 for Morinville against the Titans (5-8-1) in division one and 2-0 for the Blaze against Mavericks 95 (2-9-2) in division two. The result between the Devils and Gini’s was unavailable at press time.
Mavericks 09 are winners of the last three division one playoff cups and the Devils are the defending division two champions.
Tier III provincials
The St. Albert Impact (McCartney) finished the season as the top U16 Tier III female team at the Alberta Soccer Association championship last month.
Alyssa Wachniak, Jasmine Van Der Veen and Tiona Paton scored and Jayleen Hills was in net as the Impact defeated Airdrie FC 3-2 in the final at Ivor Dent Sports Park.
The Impact also beat the Foothills 02 Prospects 6-2 and posted identical 2-2 draws against the Xtreme (Rosborough) and CASA Selects in the eight-team tournament.
Paton and Skylar Ferchoff tallied twice and Margaret Danroth and Isabella Shepansky added singles against Foothills.
Paton and Van Der Veen found the back of the net against the Xtreme and Paton and Jane Fussell scored against CASA, the bronze medallist.
