The Paul Kane senior men’s rugby team lost a 19-17 heartbreaker in the Premier Conference playoffs May 22 to Beaumont.
The Blues, third place in pool D, were facing the first place team in pool A, but obviously were not intimidated by them.
In league play, Paul Kane had 68 points for and only 16 points against. Beaumont was a juggernaut, with 155 points for, 29 points against. Blues coaching staff were not available for interview before the Gazette’s press deadline.
But another local team, Sturgeon Composite, will face Beaumont in the Premier Conference semi-finals Monday at 5 p.m. on Lynn Davies field.
The Sturgeon senior men were no slouches this season, either. In league play, they finished in first place in pool D, with 102 points for and 30 points against. They earned a quarter-final round bye.
Sturgeon Composite coaching staff were also unavailable for interviews before the Gazette’s press deadline.
