Sabres at home
Thursday the St. Albert Sabres host the Camrose Red Wings in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League.
Puck drop is 7 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
The Sabres (10-6-3) are third in the nitro north division and Camrose (5-6-1) is last in the charger north division.
Last weekend the Sabres finished second overall at the 20-team Prince Albert tournament at 5-1.
In the final the Winnipeg Eastman Selects scored with one minute remaining to edge the Sabres 4-3.
In the round robin the Sabres defeated the Calgary Northstars 6-5, Weyburn Wings 7-1, Estevan Bruins 7-4 and the West Central (Sask.) Wheat Kings 2-1 and in the semifinals beat the Grande Prairie Storm 6-4.
Saturday the Sabres travel to Fort Saskatchewan to play the Rangers (9-3-4) at 3:30 p.m.
Junior B clash
Akinsdale Arena will be packed to the rafters Friday night when the St. Albert Merchants and Morinville Jets go toe-to-toe in the Capital Junior B Hockey League.
The festivities start at 8 p.m.
In the west division the Merchants (18-5) and North Edmonton Red Wings (17-5-2) shared top spot before Tuesday's game between the Money Men and Knights (11-10-2) in Sherwood Park. The score was unavailable at press time.
The Jets (15-6-1) are five points back of the co-leaders with games in hand.
In previous tilts the Merchants won 9-3 at Ray McDonald Sports Centre in the season-opening weekend and the Jets prevailed 4-2 last month in St. Albert.
Last weekend the Merchants edged the visiting Beverly Warriors 5-4 for their fifth straight win. The Jets also beat Beverly 1-0 at home after falling 8-2 to the Red Wings on the road for their first loss after five consecutive victories.
Braeden Farge and Mike Roeleveld of the Merchants notched two goals and one assist apiece against Beverly (10-8-4).
Blair Macuch also scored, Josh Jewell added two assists and Ty Clelland (12-1, 2.64 GAA) stopped 26 shots.
Koben Hammett sniped the winner against Beverly and Mike Brown (10-4, 3.00 GAA) faced 37 shots while posting his second shutout and the Jets' third of the season.
Hammett and Branden Domoslai also tallied against the Red Wings and Brown and Lawrence Rosychuk (4-4, 4.19 GAA) let in four goals apiece.
Sunday the Merchants host the Beaumont Chiefs (6-14-3) at 8 p.m. and the Jets entertain the Strathcona Bruins (9-14-1) at 6:45 p.m.
