HOCKEY FUN – Kira Diener is all smiles riding in a plastic crate at last year’s Esso Female Hockey Fun Day at Servus Credit Union Place. The fourth annual free on-ice introduction for first-time female hockey players of all ages is Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Go Auto Arena. Pre-registration starts at 10 a.m. at Servus Credit Union Place. Players from the St. Albert Slash, 2017 Alberta Female Hockey League and Esso Cup midget AAA national champions, will assist with on-ice instruction.

SARFC is fourth in the ERU table and tonight’s result will determine the venue for the team’s playoff opener Sept. 9. Equipment swap The annual St. Albert Minor Hockey Association equipment swap is Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Akinsdale Arena parking lot. Gently used hockey equipment of any size can be dropped off at the SAMHA office inside the arena today and Thursday between 9 and 11 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. Good quality ringette gear will also be accepted. Equipment must be clean and in good working order with no rips, tears or cracks. Jerseys, socks and personal protection apparel will not be accepted but sticks and bags are welcomed. Remaining equipment after the event will be donated to the fourth annual Esso Female Hockey Fun Day on Sunday at Servus Credit Union Place and to Brick Sports Central to refurbish for families in need. Esso Fun Day Registration for the Esso Female Hockey Fun Day in St. Albert starts 10 a.m. Sunday at Servus Credit Union Place. The free on-ice introduction for first-time female hockey players of all ages goes from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Go Auto Arena and players from the St. Albert Slash, the 2017 Esso Cup midget AAA national champions, will assist with instruction. In conjunction with the Esso Fun Day is an equipment drop off and give away event from 9 a.m. to noon. The equipment is to be clean and useable and any leftovers will be donated to Brick Sports Central. Ringette event The St. Albert Ringette Association welcomes newbies to experience the fastest game on ice at Sunday’s free event at Servus Credit Union Place. Instructors and on-ice volunteers will lead participants through drills and games suitable for all skill levels from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Skates, gloves and a certified helmet are required but sticks and rings are provided.
