Tonight's second division women's match against the Clan kicks off at 7 p.m. at the St. Albert Rugby Football Club. The host SARFC squad is fifth at 5-3 and the Clan is 4-5 but default points dropped the team into ninth place in the Edmonton Rugby Union table. Six teams earn playoff spots and the top two receive byes into the Sept. 16 semifinals. The last match for SARFC before the Sept. 9 opening playoff round is Aug. 23 at the Pirates Rugby Club (2-7) at 6:30 p.m. SARFC won division two championships in 2009 and 2014. Meanwhile, the SARFC women completed their first Alberta premier campaign in Saturday's 35-26 loss to the Rams (4-7) in Calgary to finish 2-8-1. The St. Albert Minor Football Association hosts its kick-off party Saturday at Riel Recreation Park. The jamboree game times are 10 a.m. for the peewee senior varsity Riders and 12:30 p.m. for the bantam senior varsity 49ers. The peewee junior varsity Colts and bantam junior varsity Fury huddle up at Fuhr Sports Park in Spruce Grove. Exhibition games at 3 p.m. for the atom Bucs and Vikings and 4 p.m. for the novice (five on five flag football) teams will feature special guest coaches from the Edmonton Eskimos. Adarius Bowman of the Eskimos will also be available for autographs and pictures from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The SAMFA season opener will also raise awareness of Adarius 4 Autism, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving lives of individuals living with autism. This year marks the 55th anniversary of community football in St. Albert and SAMFA will celebrate the occasion during the Super Saturday festivities Sept. 16 at the Riel facility. St. Albert is the next stop on the BMX provincial race series as riders crank it up this weekend at the Riel Recreation Park track. Race times are 11 a.m. Saturday for provincial No. 7 and C1 Canada Cup and 10 a.m. Sunday for provincial No. 8 and Canada Cup. Race divisions include challenge, devo, junior, elite and strider. The weekend pro purse is $12,000.
