The third-division Exiles will try to bounce back from Friday’s 36-10 loss to the Edmonton Pirates against the Norwesters tonight. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the Leading Edge Physiotherapy field at the St. Albert Rugby Football Club.
Friday proved tough for the third-division squad as the Exiles started the match short one player of the starting 15. Despite opening the scoring against the Pirates and running with them for the first 20 minutes of the match, the depleted roster couldn’t keep up with the larger Pirates squad.
Wednesday’s game will be a battle of the bottom — the Edmonton Rugby Union standings show the Norwesters in last place in the third division, with the Exiles tied with them. This is the first time the two squads have faced one another this season.
It’s down to the last match of the season for the Sturgeon Spirits and Bellerose Bulldogs this Thursday in high school women’s rugby. The two squads scrum down at 4:45 p.m. at the St. Albert Rugby Football Club.
In a surprise victory, Bellerose slipped past Paul Kane 19-10 during its last outing, while Sturgeon blasted Bev Facey 27-0. Sturgeon has allowed only five points against in league play this year.
Both the St. Albert Impact Rangers (division 1A) and the St. Albert Impact (division 1B) are back on the pitch tonight in Edmonton District Soccer Association league play.
The Rangers (1-0-1) are hosting Palermo FC at Riel at 7 p.m., while the Impact (1-0-1) play Western Villa at the ESA Complex at 7 p.m.
Both teams are fighting to return to the premier division after being relegated to their respected divisions based on last year’s finishes. So far, the Impact are in fifth spot in their division, while the Rangers are also in fifth place.
